I currently drive a 215bhp/260lb/ft torque turbocharged ibiza, The car weighs 1154kg

In April I am intending to get a 3.0 BMW Z4 which has 231bhp/221lb/ft torque. The car weighs 1290kg.

Am I going to miss the overtaking ease of a turbocharged engine or is it still going to be a doddle in the Z4?

Cheers.

Obviously a test drive will answer this question for me but I don't want to leave it til april, find one and go and test drive it and be all excited about how awesome it will be only to get in it and be left disappointed after wanting one for so many months.

Depends on whether you mind changing gear, I suppose.

The torque and poer delivery of a BM straight six is awesome, certainly won't struggle to overtake anything you normally over take smile

I owned a Bluefin mapped Focus ST after owning a couple of 3 litre petrol BMW's and (admittedly) an E39 M5.

I quickly realised I'd outgrown turbos, and after a year of driving it, I got back into a N/A car. I don't miss turbo's at all TBH.

Power is power. You just have to learn to wind the engine up a bit more to experience it.

You'll still outrage and get flashed by the chap in the oncoming Kia Sedantry 1.4.

Who is 1.3 miles away. On the opposite carriageway of the M25.

I had a 380bhp Supra before the Tuscan, however in performance terms the tuscan walks it. The engine needs to be reved more but you almost get that turbo kick at 4k rpm as the engine gets on the power.

I do however miss that turbo induction noise and the wastegate lol

You will miss the wave of turbo torque, however you won't miss the crap sound of the engine.

The revs and noise of the straight six will soon make you forget any issues in my opinion.

In general, normally aspirated engines drive in a much better way, mainly due to having better throttle response. Also, in this particular case, you're moving from an average engine to one of the very best. You're also moving from a high up hatchback to a low slung sports car. You won't look back smile Enjoy!

The progressive delivery from a big normally aspirated engine is a far more pleasurable experience in my opinion than the turbo shove. Particular when that acceleration is met with a silky six cylinder soundtrack.

+1. Peak torque on the Z4 (Assuming the M54 engine) is 3500 RPM, which is probably 1500 or so RPM higher up than the Ibiza. Peak HP is 5900 RPM, So you'll need to make it sing to go fast. You'll love it eleventy billion times more than the Ibiza. biggrin
