Hi,

all moved into the new house but im not sure the boiler etc is working correctly

Its a pressure system and timer works fine ( everything 8 years old )

e.g Thermostat on 25 the click is approx 17 boiler fires up for 2 min then off for 45 seconds then fires up for 2 min then off for 45 seconds etc etc etc

perhaps its me but shouldnt it stay on until the temp reaches whats chosen on the thermostat then clicks off ? there is a dial 1-6 on the boiler currently on 5

Boiler = iDeal classic
Stat = Honeywell

Perhaps its just me being stupid but any help would be great

Is the stat on the boiler turned up?

If so, I worked on an Ideal Classic with a similar problem, but the time between firing and going off was about 5-10 minutes, needed a new gas valve. Bugger of a job to change aswell!

May be one or two other things also, temperature sensor or maybe the control knob which is a potentiometer on these IIRC.

hi the only thing is a dial on the front which goes from 1 to 6 but currently on 5

deff 2min then just under a min

so am i right in thinking it should just be on until the thermostat in the hall reaches temp and turns it off ?

Are all the radiators getting hot?

My daughter's system does similar to what you describe, although it's a different boiler. I reckon hers isn't modulating (adjusting the power of the burner) properly and a crap system design / installtion means the boiler can't get rid of the heat fast enough so it cuts out, cools down a bit, then comes on again.

Has the house been empty for any length of time? If so, could be the pump has stuck. Unscrew the centre cap on the pump and see if it is turning. If not a flat-bladed screwdriver should get it turning again.

Or whack the pump with a metal object, that usually gets it going..
