Trevvie died no warning, no stuttering just dead.managed to pull over and re-start no probs. Then couple of miles later pulling into a side road same thing happened.(this was on a warm engine and plenty of fuel etc.)

Must order my bible now to fix it I guess.
any suggestions??????

Just releived it happend at low revs and not on a busy road or motorway.....

having just been blatting up and down the M60.the thought is a tad scarey.

he know sitting in the garage all warm grinning to himself.

I had something similar with the S - turned out to be a connector to the ignition switch, I had to rewire a new connector in.

When it cuts out, do all the warning lights stay off etc (ie as if you had switched the ignition off?)

is it only the ignition-controlled circuits that go dead or do the permanent circuits (like lights etc) go dead as well?

Sorry Jess I don't know Chims very well so I don't know if there's a main fuse etc but we can try to track it down to a general area of the normal wiring circuits...

these intermittent things are a bugger to trace so the more you can diagnose, the better!

as I say, intermittents faults are a pain in the bum... you can test everything and it's fine and 5 minutes later everything's dead... that's why a bit of instant diagnosis at the time, helps to cut down the options...

good luck with your checks, let us now how you get on - i'll do some more

(12 months ownership? Same as me - did you join here last April as well?)

Underneath the Car on the drivers side chassis rail there is a connection point and fusable link for the alternator cable, starter cable and battery cable.
This connection can come loose causing the intermittant problems you dscribe.
Happened to me half way up the M6 returning from Oulton last year.
Picture on page 238 of the Bible V2.

Had exactly same symptoms with my Chim 450, factory, TVR Power and C. Neils could not find prob. as intermittent. Went to mark Adams and after 3 hours on rolling road fault occurred! Was a dirty pin on ECU which had something to do with fuel. You could take out ECU and check all pins are OK. Good luck, know how frustrating it is.

Exactly what happened to mine.

It died in the petrol station, then I managed to start it only for it to pack up about 10 miles down the road.

Check the Fuse Link to start with as it is only about £1 to buy.

It is a bit difficult to get to as it is under the car as mentioned above.

Oh dear Jess! A similar thing happened to me last year, several times And you're right, it was pretty scary. Trev chose to cut-out on me with little or no warning on the outside lane of a motorway, a busy roundabout, the inevitable blind bends on country lanes and once, oh horror of horrors, with a Ferrari behind me The problem was intermittent and took a while to be diagnosed (it's a long story!) but it eventually turned out to be a faulty ECU which needed to be replaced.

what year is your Chim Roz and approx cost of new ECU?
Had the Ecu out today gave pins a good look and a reseat.
been out all over around the block getting further away, and wouldn't you know it..Drove like a babe.

Positives did meet my neighbour who has an S600,and he seems like a nice chap.

very frustrating not knowing what it is..though and if it is ever going to happen again, also twiddled the spark leads etc.
have a look at the steeper motor when I gets me bible.

The fact that your radio powered-off as well would indicate a complete loss of juice, so it's very unlikely to be just the ECU. If your battery terminals are connected properly (don't laugh) then I'm with the connector under the car.

Trev is a '94 model! I'm afraid I can't remember the cost of the new ECU because it was replaced under warranty. Suffice to say the new part came direct from the TVR factory and hadn't been properly set-up for a Chim. Trev still behaved badly but then I guess it wasn't his fault, he thought he was an auto Range Rover That's the bit Austec pinpointed and sorted out within half an hour or so

Nice one!

You will undoubtedly worry for a while that it's going to happen again. It's not nice, I do sympathise especially as it can put you in a potentially very dangerous situation. It took me a while to build up my confidence.

No talk of cerbies tho' please

Jessica - jamieheasman is right - if the radio went off too then it can't be the ECU.

In fact the ECU is very reliable, although intermittent faults are one of the most common failures - don't be too quick to blame it though. Expect an exchange unit to be around £325+VAT with a one year Warranty from a reputable supplier.

"THE Fuse" is a well known culprit, but there is another problem. This is one of the main system earths, located behind the radiator grille on the driver's side, on the big bolt that holds the body to the chassis.

Because it is located behind the grille, it gets sprayed with all the road crud in wet weather. Since it has no protection (not even greased when manufactured) it corrodes very easily. Fixing it is easy - but dirty!

Other related symptoms are reduced headlamp brightness, odd wiper behaviour, and partial illumination of the indicators. This is all covered in the mighty Steve Heath tome (no TVR Griff/Chim owner should be without it)!

The same thing happened to me once whilst I had a Chim on the rollers. I was sat in the passenger seat (driver seat vacant) with my laptop, and the engine just stopped whilst the wipers started! I wondered how I could have broken that for a few minutes....

It does take some time to get your confidence back after a random cutout though...

thanks !! Will check the main earth( I believe someone has already suggested |I do this.
Would prefer to get the car on the ramps without Hubby tutting and fuffing in the background , so will send himout for the day.
I agree i always looked upon my Chim with total love and adoration.
Know I am feeling like hey when you gonna stop on me next fast lane on a motorway.Don't fancy being in a pile up.
Been around the block a few times getting bigger and bigger,so hopefully build my confidence back up and maybe ( Hope not ) get some diagnostics for if it does it again) see He has become an IT.Not good..

I Love my Trev, always even when he is broke.

Bet Porsche owners dont have to put up with this....but hey who'd want one of them
