Scameras in the Lake District
Discussion
There are two talivans - usually take it in turns to sit on the M6 around Shap. However, when not there - the NT car parks along the 20mph stretch of the A591 (on each side of Ambleside and on also on approach to Grasmere) must be quite lucrative little earners for them. They also like to park up on my driveway - so if you see one parked like that - ram it and come and have a cuppa!

Also watch out for the vans on the A591 out of Kendal, through Ings village, and the A590 towards Barrow, there's no fixed cameras to speak of though.

If they sit on your drive, surely you are entitled to , say, 25% commission?
I've got a car which is far too nice to spoil by ramming a talivan. I'll fire an Excocet missile instead.
I have lots of arguments with these guys in the past, with all kittens inciting me to "deck them one"
We have sent invoice to local prats about it. Apparently - they think our driveway is public path and entrance to field (true - there is a field and we have the kids' ponies in it!) - we live in old farmhouse and driveway/dirttrack in question is 2 miles long - apart from the gate and some nice hanging baskets - looks like entrance to a field!

Yeah, these bastards got my dad for 47 in a 40... he's had a clean licence for nearly 50 years and no accidents apart from some numpty skidding into the back of him while he was waiting at a roundabout with no room to dodge. Bastards...

Please let us know where this is occuring as we do not have any record of a complaint such as the one you describe.
We have certainly not received an invoice for parking anyway.
Are you sure you have the right county?

We have never operated on the NT car park in a 20mph limit. Is there an emoticon for Porky?

I'm off to the Lake District next weekend for a week of motoring fun. Any advice on places to look out for Scameras, Talivans and police hangouts much appreciated.
Why not ask us, we'll tell you where thay are, you seem to be getting bad advice so far apart from that from Destroyer.

Ahhh Steve, nice to see you back.
While we have your attention....
Could we please have the accident statistics for the sites which met the criteria for cameras, but which were not monitored by cameras, for the same period(s) as for the sites which were monitored in order to calculate the percentage change in KSI at the unmonitored sites?
How many miles of roads are there in the Cumbria SCP area? Preferably broken down into categories - Motorway, A class, others.
Which is safer, to overtake quickly and get back to your side of the road, exceeding the speed limit to do so, or, to overtake within the speed limit and stay the wrong side of the road for much longer?
What 85th percentile speeds have been recorded on the M6? (various times, dates and locations, with and without HGVs included.)
What is the exact basis for your opinion that reduced traffic speeds in general will cause a reduction in accidents? (i.e. What documents or reseach do you think supports your view?
As most accidents occur within the speed limits, how does/how can a speed camera affect the outcome of these "within the limits" type occurences?
what are the treasury spending the Scamera money on then?
If such a high percentage of the population supports scameras, where are the supporters posting on here in defence of the practice?
When you overtake on your motorbike do you ever exceed the speed limit?
Will Steve apologise to all the families of the dead for whom he has a partial responsibility, when it emerges that the speed sc@mera farce has COST lives instead of saving them?
if cameras save lives then how come the number killed on roads in the UK in 2003 actually rose?
Cheers
Paul

Fair questions fairly put!
Welcome back Steve, I have a feeling it's going to get turbulent

You have lost it! That why we never heard back!
No matter - my husband will send you another one!
An while we are about it ....
Those pictures of your little trap at Ings! You said in one post either here on on your own site ....
"If we can see you - you can see us!"
One of our guys (who is one of you lot - only he does it Germany - and he gets my claws into him quite a lot too!
has checked this out.) He is one of the guys ruffling you a bit on your own forum -and is havin' a larf!
You would be completely invisible from oncoming traffic - and you are too close to the speed limit change as well!
He said he would not be allowed to do this in Germany - and they do indeed hide them there!

Our guy asked him about adverts and training to help drivers too!
He asked him if he uses his fine money for advert tips - he replied in affirmative! "We do"
Um - he means those distractions on the back of buses up here - which seem to be more of PR job for CSCP than advice for safe driving in the Lake District!
By the way - Ian replied to their question about COAST and what it means! You never bothered to even show you actually underestood it.
Unforfunately Chief Tiger has posted fullest answer there - as I have on here
Prove you understand the realities of safe driving by giving tips in your own words = and ones which do not spout politically correct dogma! Leave speed out of equation for a moment - and tell us what you are doing to promote real safety up here!
This is the guy - by the way - who says "straights with clear view are most dangerous places to overtake!"
So - where would you overtake Steve - Liebchen?
This is the guy whose forum has thread on "unanswered questions" which he will not answer because they are too hard for him!
We count amongst his "banned posters" - he will not reply to Tiger (Siegfried) and WildKatzen!(Joachim) on there! (They are the guys behind those posts! - and speaking for all of us on there!)
And my husband will still send you that invoice - as it has happened twice! Last summer and earlier this year! It blocked us in! I am sure the chap who was in the van will remember the torrent of colourful language he received at the time - and I am supposed to be a lady! (Well - parents did try - but did already 'fess up here - spent most of the lessons in "ladylike" behaviour outside the classroom for not being - er - er "ladylike!"

Yes, an answer would be "interesting".
