I'm surprised that no-one has come up with a glass rear window for a Chimaera. Surely all it would need would be a zipper in the leather along the sides & top of the glass, so that it could fold down ok. I've seen various other cars with this arrangement - how hard would it be to get someone to make one?

cheers

Interesting idea. Would take a bit of thought to design a seal that would be totally watertight. If parked out in the rain a lot of water is going flow off the roof and across the bottom seal.

But this can be done: viz the later MX5 roof.

I raised a similar point some time ago. Clive at Zertec suggested keep the plastic but put a zipper around 3 edges so the plastic lies on the rear shelf when down.
I did offer my car as a guinea pig but he never got back to me!

Prolem I see with this is that the TVR rear screens fold in half as you drop the rear section down, due to the design of the roof. However if you can come up with a water tight hinged glass then fine. If yo look at MX5's, MGf's etc. the roof takes up much more room as it folds allowing the glass bit to fit in the parcels area. Thats exactly why I specified the zip arrangement. Think about it - unzip the sides, top & the glass will flop down flat, and the rest will fold in the normal way

This is what happens on the wife's MGF, three sides of the plastic are unzipped and the it lies flat - quite nice going along like that without the whole top having to be lowered. Surprised the Chim didn't ever come with that arrangement.

It would mean a far smaller window - wouldn't it? The plastic one runs 'round the corners. I can't really see it being such a big advantage (considering cost).

But glass can go round corners too (look at your front windscreen for example)
There's loads of space at the back - the only issue is the 2 struts - it may make more sense to have the zips at the sides & the bottom, so that the glass hangs down

It's now starting to sound like a Tuscan back window...

....which is also plastic.

I used to have an MGF and driving with the rear screen down was pleasant when it wasnt possible to have the roof down. This is about the only thing about the MGF which I miss.
