I think it would be exceptionally difficult for any driver to win a race first time of asking. It's quite a clever ploy really!
I wonder what their stance is say if someone like Sebastien Bourdais was to take up the challenge? Or is there a clause previous Champ Car/Indy drivers can't do the challange?
Not sure if LMS is on that weekend, but if anyone would be up to taking the money, it would be him... Think he had a rough time of it in F1, he's a real talent imo.

J-P M managed to win the 500 when he was in Champ Car so switching disciplines isn't impossible in this day and age. I think this is a great idea, along with the Surfers Paradise V8 Supercars race. I'd have thought the likes of Lotus with a toe in GP2 and IndyCar would do well to enter an extra car for Jules Bianchi, just in case.
Oh and Brundle for the win...I reckon the current generation of IndyCar drivers are softer than the 1990 IROC field

It's an oval track, drivers don't really add that much to make a car quicker in oval trim it's all about the team setting the car up. If they are experienced and have good engineers you'll win if not it doesn't matter who you are you won't make a big enough difference to make up for a bad car setup.

I disagree to a point- it's all about bravery at those speeds, even more so when they are in a pack.But yes, the set up helps.
If any NASCAR drivers have the opportunity I would put money on Tony Stewart or Juan Pablo Montoya if they got a good car as they both have good single seat experience on ovals during their IRL/CART careers. Tony Stewart has had pole postion at Indianapolis and 3 wins on other ovals and Montoya won the 2000 Indy 500.
Sam Hornish at Penske has to be a good shot. But maybe the rules will prevent former winners of the series or the 500 coming back.
Probably the winner will come from Ganassi or Penske, surely (and especially if the title is already sewn up) those two will just be looking to get whoever they select to the front ahead of their regular drivers.

They'd be mad to do that. The idea is to attract the bestest drivers from all over the world to the race, and filling the field with champions would make it quite exciting. And wrinkly.Good shout about Kubica by the way. Lotus has an Indycar entry now as well...
