E46 SMG M3 - QUESTION

My broter is trying to sell his M3 and when a buyer came and took it out yesterdy he took it out for a drive with the SMG setting on the most aggressive, on each gear change he said the car pulled slightly to the left - anyone know if this is a fault?

Pulling to one side under acceleration .. well on a FWD you'd think wishbones, driveshaft etc. Worn RTABs perhaps ? broken spring .. faulty diff .. low tyre pressure..?

Could it be out to do with the setting being on the hardest?

Uneven camber on the road? Buyer trying to find fault with a car that has none?

Probably one of them! It's almost exactly the same thing that I 'found fault' with when I bought mine!

the point being, look for components involved in managing the accelerative forces, and see if any of them have failed.

So basially it could be nothing or one of Four things?

I took my best mate with me on the test drive who is a top-tech at a main dealer and he looked at it in some depth there and then we had it up on the ramp when I got it home. Absolutely spotless, thank god!!

There wasn't really an issue with it pulling when I was test driving, I was being a bit cheeky and taking it down roads that I knew had a pretty severe camber and/or uneven surface so as to try and 'find a fault' that wasn't necessarily there so as to create a 'negotiating opportunity'

It could be one of the following:

Worn RTAB's

Worn or mismatched tyres

Broken springs or worn suspension

Rear Sub Frame cracked/damaged

Alignment out

You need to get it up on the ramps & check everything!

Also check it out yourself as it might be the buyer trying to knock ££££'s off

I remember getting a flat rear left tyre in my E46 M3 - the first thing I noticed was that there was a real jolt to one side on changing gear on a dual carriageway. Didn't otherwise drive that weirdly. Stopped at the next garage as it didnt feel right, the tyre was nearly flat. So, maybe one side isn't quite right?
