Maserati Quattroporte - cheap as chips?
Discussion
Why are Maserati Quattroporte so cheap?
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2474714.htm
Do they cost an arm and a leg to maintain - how much, are they unreliable?
Anyone got any experience or insights?

cause its got 4 doors and the engine in the front but is a Maserati. I guess it is seen as an odd combination. I am not saying this is bad but just rubs the price down I guess.

Very odd combination. Just trying to think of another prestige 4-door with the same layout.
The Panamera and Rapide don't meet your criteria - they're not Maseratis, so, no, I can't think of any.

If you're genuinely thinking about a QP, you'd find a lot of interesting reading on the following:http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2474714.htm

If you can`t afford to run a new one under warranty then you`ll find it possibly a little ruinous to run one that`s 5-6 years old, out of warranty and leggy for an Italian V8. This why secondhand prices are so low. £1400 for a headlight!!
It` s a HELL of a lot of car for the money though!

Saloon cars lose value faster than Coupes, Soft tops and 4x4s. I think the QP holds it's money well compared with its rivals from BMW, Audi, Merc and Jag. This particular car is a bit of a plain jane (in QP context!), nice low miles, but beware it's very easy to spend lots of money on a service and a few wear and tear parts.

Leggy?...hardly....and that engine is bombproof. It` s a HELL of a lot of car for the money though!
Re parts prices...any prestige 4 seater is expensive to run of course, but for me at least, I would rather run a QP than a Merc CLS if I wanted/needed a charismatic 4 seater. And the sound and sheer presence of the thing.
£1400 for a headlight...reminds me of the time I thought I would buy a 'Grale as my everyday car to go with the 308...a matching Italian pair. Visited John Whalley who told that the inning costs and parts prices of both were pretty much comparable....I decided not to continue down that track...
on the headlight though....I cannot remember the last time I replaced a headlight in any of the cars I have owned...

True, this is £2k worth of damage on a CLS:Re parts prices...any prestige 4 seater is expensive to run of course, but for me at least, I would rather run a QP than a Merc CLS if I wanted/needed a charismatic 4 seater. And the sound and sheer presence of the thing.

There was no damage to the engine bay and no damage to the grille, the second bonnet skin hadnt even been brokeN/pierced.

Why are all those cars so cheap? People are scared of them...also there are too many around with low milage and if you don't drive these car frequently they will give you a lot of trouble. People think that they cost millions to fix, do 3mpg, and get stolen 4 times a night.John
I had a QP for 4 years and the only time I had an issue is when it came back from a dealer for a service. Other than that the car has been perfectly reliable, driven myself and the little family around europe, and me to work every day...even in a foot of snow.
What would you prefer some Mercedes minicab or something which actually makes you feel good when you are sitting still. A Merc/BM/etc etc are functional, very good at what they do, but they will never be a Maserati Quattroporte. Maserati don't offend their buyers intelligence by making a diesel, or worse a hybrid.
There you go, get a car with a reasonable milage for the year and you should be on to a winner...would suggest nothing less than 30,000 miles for a 6 year old car.
I've been looking at these for a while, along with M5's. To my mind I think the Sport GT is the one to go for with some now dropping to the early £30k's they are seriously tempting. Doesn't seem to be much written about them on this forum so good to hear ASJG's experience, would be interested in any other owner comments.

See my comment above - pop along to either of those sites to speak to owners. They're a friendly lot too. Graham

Thanks, previously registered on the www.maseratiforum.co.uk but seemed a bit quiet. Didn't know of the SportMaserati one so will take a look.
Cheers,
Graham
PS. Lovely GS LE by the way!

Good points regarding the Merc etc. Very good at what they do but soul-less. I am not in the market for a 4 door but know which one I would go for.I had a QP for 4 years and the only time I had an issue is when it came back from a dealer for a service.
