Just made a few enquiry's for brake shoes and fitting. i was quoted £45 from one and £80 at the next for the same job.

whilst i want to go with my usual (who are charging £80), i cant justify paying nearly double for the same job. Sorry to be such a noob but are garages really this uncompetitive?

The general main dealer hourly rate is £125 per hour near where I live.

I use a garage where 2 brothers work alone and have 20yrs experience each of fixing cars and they charge me £30 per hour.

Main dealer = high overheads - big shiny showroom/garage, big shiny receptionist, big shiny free coffee machine etc. etc.

Local garage = low overheads, smaller premises, topless calendar,no free coffee.
