I hope someone can advise me. My 520i Touring failed to open the drivers door from the remote this morning. All the other doors work perfectly. Having climbed in through the passenger door I find that even using the handle will not open the door! The button pops up and even a shoulder charge to the door in the moment the button is raised fails to open the damm thing!!! I have tried using the key manually and my spare remote all with the same result.
How dangerous is that, when you can't release the door manually from the inside, any ideas what the problem / solution is?

Believe that is an MOT failure.

Probably a donald ducked locking solenoid preventing the door from unlocking, is there resistence to turning the key in the lock?

The key turns freely and the button jumps up but the door won't open even when holding the key turned and pulling the handle, so annoying. ....... Did I mention its raining cats and dogs too, just perfect frown

Yes, I believe you did.

Not sure the best way to sort this as you'd need the door open to access the solenoid.

I guess you could try squirting wd40 or similar into the lock and hope it frees something up but that is really a last hope.

In light of what the OP has said I do not think it is going to be the solenoid.

What year 520i is this, E34/39??

Had similar on an e90 only one opened all rest stayed locked even when handle pulled from inside and button on door was up. It was a fuse that had blown.

Now that I have (finally) dried out here is the happy news!
I put in a call to a friend who works for a main dealer in London and he immediately diagnosed the problem and a solution.
`Put the key into the drivers door lock, turn it to unlock and at the same time press the unlock button on the key and pull the handle.`
Well roll me in butter, coat me with sugar and call me a doughnut!!!!! It only worked and the bloomin` thing has been perfectly behaved all day.
Just to be safe I am going to take the door card off at the weekend and have an investigation and lubricate everything that might need a little tlc.
It`s an e39, in answer to the previous question re. the car. clap

same thing on my E90. Door actuator. It was a warranty fix but would have set me back a few hundred quid if not!
