What with a raft of modern day unpronounceables (Huayra) and technical (Mp4-12C) supercar designations, which of the previous iconic or obscure names given to models of supercars best captured the spirit of the thing?

I think Lamborghini Diablo was pretty much spot on, but I'm sure there are better out there.

I like some of the literal ones - Quattroporte, Superfast.
Diablo, Cobra, Interceptor are good. You just know it's not a shopping trolley.

But I think as cool names go, Bizzarrini Strada takes some beating.

HELLFIRE.

You know it's not going to hang about.

// Edit. I mis-read the post and thought you were asking for names never given to a supercar but should have.

I quite like the way MP4-12C trips off the tongue.

Joking aside though, whilst being a pretty crap name, it it helped to some extent by its connection to some awesome F1 machinery.

Jiotto Caspita sounds suitably exotic.

As does Isdera Commedatore.

Both awesome cars as well.

Interceptor

Not quite a super car, but a true GT, and a great name.

Quite like the 'Challange Stradale' and 'Superleggera' variant names myself.

Not only does Superleggera sound good, it looks fantastic as well:
