hi all
has anyone done this to there Diesel, 'claims' look impressive if true, my concern is about the warranty issue, I would tell insurance company just in case.

I have a Black Edition 2.0 TDI 170.

has anyone used Chip Express, they claim their system is an add on, and not detectable..

this is ewhat they have on their site

Unlike cheaper, untested, 'generic' systems, the CHIP Express™ digital tuning system retains all the protective functions and fault diagnostics of your vehicle's original ECU; always operating well within the tolerances specified by the manufacturer. Every CHIP Express™ system undergoes rigorous and extensive testing on new vehicles and the proof of the system's quality and reliability is amply demonstrated in our TUV approval, our CE Mark (confirming compliance with the strict safety and suitability requirements of the EU) and our ISO9001 certification too.

The CHIP Express™ digital tuning system is NOT a 'replacement chip' where your ECU has to be physically opened and the original chip replaced. Nor is it a 'remap' whose settings can be detected and even deleted during routine servicing. In fact, the CHIP Express™ system has been designed to work alongside your original ECU not to replace it.

Anybody used these, or any experience?

for mine the claim is :

BHP = 170 up to 204
NM = 350 up to 408
Economy= up to +20%

actually can be tweaked higher!! supposedly with no damage to engine..

thanks
Dave

Sounds mighty impressive doesn't it ? I have the same engine and some company said they can get it to 230bhp by removing some stuff and a map . Highly tempting if I was a motorway cruiser

...not got your engine, but can give you my feedback on TDi "Boxes".

I am running a Vauxhall Vectra SXi 1.9CDTi 150 as a daily commuter.

I have a DTUK Red plug and play tuning box.
I have it switched to the "Anarchy" Map setting.
It is running at an estimated 197BHP (approx, according to the company) and yes, it feels and drives like it is. It will embarass a LOT of cars on my daily commute and it still returns excellent MPG ...LOL!
(to put it in to perspective, I also have a 530D Sport and at the time of fitting the box, an Impreza Turbo so am good for a comparison). Once fitted (took 5 mins) the car felt 30% "lighter" and was much more responsive thorughout the rev range. 30 to 80+ in 3rd gear is ridiculously quick. The car pulls like a train. It was certainly no slouch in standard form prior to fitting the box, but incomparable after.

I also had an £80 tuning box on my old 1998 Passat 1.9 TDi SE Auto - and it made the car very, very driveable, plus had the benefit of retuning MORE mpg than before.

I have one one my BMW but have not had the time to tweak it to optimum performance yet.

I would do your research on what option you wish to go (and who from) but would definately consider fitting a "box" solution to any modern Turbo Diesel engine that I own.

Simply unplug the common rail electrical connector, plug this in to the box and the box back in to the common rail et voila.

G.

ETA - This obviously is not re-mapping or super chipping but a good upgrade as lots of people Ive spoken to doubt the validity and effectiveness of a lot of tuning Boxes, but I can confirm that the good ones really do work well.

230hp from a remap and DPF removal is a tad over the top since the majority of the 170s seem to remap to 200-205 with 300-320lbs torque. The DPF isn't a life changing performance mod as such, i believe removing it helps the turbo by reducing back pressure an allowing better flow.

Almost too good to be true?

I'm running around with one of the older VAG 1.9 PDI engines, I've seen quotes that would bring it from the boring 130bhp to anything between 150 and 170. Its very tempting, and I'm mainly doing motorway miles.

I had the VW 1.9TDi 110SE Auto. It was ok before but totally different when I fitted a cheap tuning box from here http://stores.ebay.co.uk/lightandchiptuning

I did have to adjust the box from standard but its easy - simply turn the screw until you get good power and acceptable level of black smoke on hard acceleration (unburned diesel). If you get black smoke, back the screw off a little... as they say: "No poke without the Smoke!"

Can not reccommend highly enough but make your own minds up.

thanks for the responses guys much appreciated.

My Audi is only just over a year old, so still under warranty, I do a lot of miles for work so the MPG
difference is a draw with the pump prices!! but also the added power to play with when appropriate!!

the site actually claim power can go up to 220 BHP, which is pretty good going, but I don't want to invalidate the warranty, or wait another 2 years for it to run out!!

THey say it is undetectable? the other systems don't make this claim, as they go in a fiddle about I think, where as this plugs and plays seemingly.

has anyone used these guys ?

My background is in Superchipping, both powerbox and remap options, with apprx 300 vehicles under my belt. I would recommend either PSI Motorsport or Tunit, if you want to go the plug in route. However things have moved on since they first appeared on the scene. My money is on (and its the company I would spend my own cash with) Superchips themselves, and purchase the Bluefin unit, this is a hand held device about the size of a PDA which you plug into your diagnostic port, it makes a back up copy of your ECU settings and then applies the remap to your ECU. You can then repeat the process to return your car to standard prior to a service, or warranty work and then remap it when you get the car back. They will recode the unit to work on your next vehicle...brilliant really

Hope this helps

I didn't distribute Superchips kit when I was in the game, but they did help me out on a commercial project I was involved in. Was really impressed by the skill of the guys that worked there. From memory if you change your car within twelve months of buying the unit they will remap the hand held unit for free??, and after twelve months the charge it at a pretty heft discount. So although they are at the top end of the market price wise, your getting a map for life.

I bought a Skoda fabia VRS brand new in 2005. I ran it for 6000 miles (4 Months) and remapped it with Angeltuning.
The results were fantastic. Power went from 130-185+, and on my motorway runs MPG was actually up 2mpg (down 2mpg around town.
I would definatly do it again.

I was going to get a brand new Octavia VRS TDI and rang them about 6 months ago, they said the later CR engine couldnt be done as it had anti mapping software on, so I never bought one.frown

I had a look on eBay - There are plenty of Blufins on there. However, one ad explained that the unit they are selling had "run out of lives"??

...anyway - website here http://www.mybluefin.co.uk/

£395 for a tuning box!!!!

Not a chance.

Talk to Simon: www.e-maps.co.uk/ he will help you understand the differences from the various systems and options. He doesn't do the hard sell.

I think the Diesel "tuning box" just tells the ECU the ambient air temperature is colder than it really is, which makes it inject more fuel.

At a price they will.

Those boxes are relatively cheap, it's the data that they are charging for.

I don't get how these are undetectable when it really matters, which is in the event of the insurance company looking over your written off impounded car after an accident... which I guess is what many worry about.

If it's the warranty at the dealers, then screwing with any car in warranty sounds like a bad idea. They can probably detect the fact it's had stuff plugged into it if things are disturbed around the ECU or sensors etc.

Hmmmm.
