Car insurance - recommended brokers?
Discussion
Hi folks,
Doing the ringing around game so could people recommend some good brokers?
So far I have tried A-Plan & Chris Knott.
I'm going to try Admiral for their multicar policy (although I have heard that they're not the best for customer service). Compare the Market came back with an OK quote for the Saab but to be honest the best so far is Chris Knott's renewal quote!
Not trying Adrian Flux because every time I call them I get bad vibes and they've seemed a bit shonky.
Any other good brokers?
Situation is a bit complex - both cars modified, one is an import, need business cover - so mainstream companies aren't great.

Where Admiral have disappointed me in the past is speaking to some friendly individual in the UK when buying a policy, but having to speak to someone with a poor grasp of English in an overseas call centre when making a claim, this may have changed now but is off-putting.I know you're not keen on Adrian Flux, but I'd give them a try if I were you, you can always choose not to go-ahead with the quote. They've been fantastic for me. Saving me a load of cash and not adding any extra premium when I add mods to my imported Delica which is now insured as a campervan, I'm sure they do Multi-car policy aswell. I was a little put off by them when I was getting quotes, but went with them anyway and have beeen very happy.

I think unfortunately yours may have been during the trial period but as far as i'm aware we don't us them for claims just customer service for mid term changes.

I just got that feeling when on the phone that they weren't getting all my details down right. I have heard loads of stories about incorrect paperwork and things taking ages to turn up. Plus that fiasco with the "PH discount" that appears to be automatically added even though you haven't mentioned PH ...May give them a go if I can summon up the energy to call. Will try Admiral for an online quote too.
TBH I have already matched last years quote on the MX-5 and Chris Knott's renewal on the Saab is pretty good, although still over the 285 I paid last year.
On the good side of things I discovered that an e36 328 sport is no more expensive to insure than an mx5 import
You mean a Eunos Roadster. I'm looking at getting one myself for a first car. So ZOLLAR I take it you work for Admiral then. How much would it cost to insure a Eunos Roadster for a 17 year old, this is the 89' 1.6 and would I bet best getting the parents to take out a multicar policy.

Multicar may be a good idea for you, with regards to a price for a new policy you'll have to ring up sorry Lukesi I work in the renewals department so don't handle new quotes!.Sorry!.

Ok cheers mate. I'm not old enough yet anyway, this time next year I will hopefully have my full license. Just a quick question though, with mutlicar does each driver still earn NCB?
each driver builds up separate NCB and if say you claim it won't affect the ncb on the other cars.NiceCupOfTea said:

I feel the same about AF. I got the impression the guy I spoke to was simply tapping my details into a comparison site. Certainly the prices were no better. Despite some misgivings I went ahead (working on the belief that they were "specialists" and it was a better bet. When the paperwork arrived there were numerous factual errors and the vehicle value was typed as £400 instead of the £4000 I told him! Small error but possibly critical if I'd made a claim. I took the opportunity to decline the policy.May give them a go if I can summon up the energy to call. Will try Admiral for an online quote too.

I ended up getting a better price from the Post Office than the previous year's premium from a different provider.

I think you will struggle. New driver, no NCB and an import is going to be a real issue.Bear in mind that I am looking of quotes of 4-500 (36, good postcode, 4 years NCB, IAM, parked on drive (although it's got a couple of small mods and business use)
PS - I'm well aware of Eunos/MX-5/Miata naming

Aren't they all just one car? What is a Eunos Roadster? I've only ever heard of an MX5. Although in all seriousness I wouldn't actually do that as it is fraud, however if the insurance company screwed up. I think though due to how little (comparably) the Mk1s are worth now most of the time if I did damage it I would see how much the parts were from the scrappy. The mother said earlier "I've seen loads they are common" My reply "And? Means parts are cheap" I can just imagine someone who is 17 with something like a corsa would be trying to prove that their car is "wikid sik man" whereas I would not be as I know my car is actually a bloody awsome driving machine.
Eunos Roadster/MX-5/Miata are all pretty much the same car.
As for having one of the above for a first car, good luck with that. All the best wishes to you, but it won't happen unless you have multiple thousands in the bank, and insurance is only going up and up while you wait to get your license.

Oh I thought you meant to forget to mention it was the import. Oh well. Guess I got the joke you didn't write
Oh and thanks Nate. I agree insurance prices are quite stupid. Although soon women won't be able to go on about their cheap car insurance. ;D
