Does anyone know what airline is operating the emergency flights to Libya? News is reporting one of them has gone tech at Gatwick.

Turkey and Portugal can get planes over to get their people out - but the British plane is broken. This country has truly lost the fking plot. Maybe India could lend us one that works?

I think it's more the fact that most other countries have managed to get their people out, so why haven't we? It's not exactly an Easyjet flight for a jolly in Benidorm.

According to flightradar24, it is 757 G-OJIB, current over the French coast.

Britain has a responsibility to it's nationals wherever they are in the world and when it goes wrong those nationals are entitled to expect that their mother-country helps them out. In my previous job I did overwatch for the evacuation of British ex-pats from Lebanon should we just have given them a compass too and wished them luck as Israel did what it liked?

I now work overseas in dangerous countries through choice where when you sign your contract you are made aware who is responsible for what. There is nothing wrong with what they are doing. They are caught up in a terrifying situation where there is no other way of getting out other than with goverment help - they can't go to the airport and buy a ticket to anywhere! After they are safe it is upto the government to sort out with the company if they are liable for the cost of repatriation by not getting the workers out when they had a chance.

Britain's nationals were sitting happy raking in the cash, tax free. We should pay for them to come back to benefits?

According to William Hague, other UK carriers wetre requested to carry out these flights but refused on safety grounds.

That's the prioblem when you contract civvies to do military work.

Where are those VC-10s when you need them?
