Advice needed to buy an F430 or a Gallardo
Discussion
Hi,
I am new to the forum and need some help. I have been reading around and everyone here seems to have good knowledge in this area.
Basically, I own a 07 Bentley Flying Spur and was thinking of changing it to a Gallardo or a F430.
The main reasons for the change are:
1) From looking at used the cars the F430 and Gallardo seem to hold their value much better than the Bentley.
2) The warranty you can get with the vehicles. I know with Lamborghini they have recently started a 2 years warranty deal with any used car you purchase so that is appealing to me. I am not sure if the same is available with the F430.
I am looking to purchase a 06 onwards Gallardo because it has the extra power and small changes to it or an 06 onwards F430.
At the moment the Bentley is worth realistically around £65k-£70k and I am willing to put on top around £10k-£15k.
With the reasons involved is it worth it to switch?
Looking 2 years down the line or so will I "save" money by changing or not?
I do understand the Bentley is a luxury orientated vehicle and the Lamborghini and Ferrari being supercars so there will be the obvious difference in comfort etc
As an almost day to day drive which one would be better? The Gallardo does have Audiness to it in the interior with the full screen navigation and dual climate control and so on.
So ultimately it comes down to:
1) Keep the Bentley
2) Replace it with a Gallardo or F430, but which one?
Thank you in advance for your help!

.Regarding warranties, as far as I know Lamborghini would not offer a extended warranty on any used cars bought outside their network, they may have changed their policy however so you'd be best to give one of the dealers a ring to find out. If you buy the car from them then yes you do get a warranty, not sure if it's one or two years thought again best to check.
Ferrari offer a 2 year warranty on all used cars bought through them or it can be added on to a used car bought elsewhere. It requires a vehicle check and if it passes they'll add it on for around £2k if I remember correctly.
Bentley is likely to lose more than the r Ferrari or Lambo due to the fact there is so many more of them, however how much I wouldn't like to say. I reckon a good estimate would be about £10k in the next year for the 430 and Gallardo.
The Ferrari has a MUCH bigger boot and has more room behind the seats to store things compared to th Gallardos boot which would struggle to hold anything more than a couple particles of dust! Visibility is better in the 430, than the Gallardo but having said that I would highly recommend parking sensors and or a reversing camera, just to save you scraping those bumpers.
Interior wise, I personally prefer the Gallardo. The stereo and Sat Nav is a million times better than the 430, the heating/aircon is more powerful etc. I know these things sound a bit daft but realistically when you're using the car on a daily basis it's these little things that count.
In my opinion the 430 is probably the better drivers car, has much better steering feel for a start, but having said that I overall think I prefer the Gallardo. It is a hard choice though, I’m just glad I don’t have to choose between the two
. It all comes down to personal opinion to be honest. My best advice would be to go driver both a see what you think, no doubt one of which will jump out at you.Hope that helps and if you have any other questions feel free to PM me.
The Bentley you already own is the key. If you bought a full four seat luxury car you must have had a reason for that? Need to carry more than one passenger? Personally I prefer the Flying Spur over the GT, but if you bought it originally for the capacity then changing to the 430 or the G takes you in a completely different direction. If more than one passenger is likely then another option would be the Maserati Granturismo with two doors and four seats, I imagine it will suffer with depreciation somewhere between the Bentley and the Ferrari, and would be an easier daily drive.

Oh sorry I wasn't very clear about the Lamborghini warranty; I do understand it is only offered by the dealerships (recently introduced) and I was informed it was 2 years. The Ferrari warranty sounds very good as well so that is a plus point seeing as the Bentley is not covered.
Well seeing as this decision is based on saving money, worst comes to worst the F430 and Gallardo would only lose the same amount but should depreciate less seeimng as there are LOADS of used Bentleys in the market at the moment so it I doubt the Bentley will hold its value as well as the others.
Well boot space isn't that important to me but I have looked at the space Lamborghini call a boot and its tiny! If I do purchase one I would make reversing cameras a must. The biggest downside to the Ferrari for me is the interior; the full screen sat nav is a really useful feature and I just do not think the layout is as good as the Gallardo. That is why I am leaning towards the Gallardo more.
I do not plan on going on track days and so I can't see myself "disappointed" with the Lamborghinis steering feel.
I am assuming by your name you have a Gallardo/Lamborghini yourself?
The best way to decide is to test drive them both but was looking in to any early opinions at first!
Just out of interest do you know which one rides better in terms of comfort? Again, a test drive would answer this but just was wondering on any information I could get now.
If you leave E gear in automatic, are the gear changes jerky or is it smooth? The ease of driving an automatic again is a must for me and jerky changes would really put me off.
Finally are running costs similar? Or would you say one is more expensive to run then the other?
Thanks again for your help lambo xx!! (Y)

I understand the point you are coming from. The Bentley is used as a daily drive as well as the family vehicle. I do have other cars which can be used as the family vehicle and so going down from 5 to 2 seats is not a problem for me. If there are 2 plus passengers the other car can be taken out so that again is not an issue and it doesn't occur very often either. I was thinking about the Maserati but again its the deprecation I am not looking forward too! And would like to have some fun in a G or a F430 seeing as I have never owned such a car. Thanks for your help!
From personal experience, the F430 cost more to run than the gallardo, much more. I also found that as a useable car, the Gallardo was heads and shoulders above the F430. Things like aircon, sat nav etc The boot in the front of the car is very small as has been said and I did feel a tad claustrophobic whilst in the Gallardo. I found the F430 to have much more room (for my body composition, everyone is different).
Having said that, I felt the Ferrari to be more of an occasion, things like the starter button, traction control setting etc all small things.

I work up and down the M4 everyday and Ferrari's of all models tend to blend into the other cars, but a Lamborghini gets noticed every time. Thanks for your help!
i cant imagine going from a bentley to a 430/G. both these cars are very much like toys, fun for a few hours then put them back. if you want something exciting and raw then thats the right way to go. if you want something to use like a normal car i would say not. i would consider something either a sl63 merc/aston or a 911 turbo as something in the middle ground

Regarding your question on E Gear. In full auto mode it is awful as it seems to delay gear change and almost reduce speed before picking up again. Sport and Corsa are by far the best option as changes are rapid and keep you on the move plus you get the noise in corsa and the nice blip of throttle on the downchange. I had manual before but love the E Gear. Just dont use full auto mode!! The paddles are really easy to use so I do not suggest buying either 430 or Gallardo if you want a fully auto car. As suggested the Porsche or Merc or Masserati seem better options.Oh sorry I wasn't very clear about the Lamborghini warranty; I do understand it is only offered by the dealerships (recently introduced) and I was informed it was 2 years. I would say the 430 is a better drivers car than the Gallardo, but the Gallardo looks much better and is rarer.
The 430 is much more delicate and lighter to drive than the Gallardo, which feels heavy and requires a lot of steering effort until you hit some speed. Whilst I have a manual Gallardo, I have tried an egear and I thought it was awful compared to the F1 box in the 430. You should really try to get to drive an F1 or egear to appreciate the differences from an auto - it can be a jerky affair, especially low speed manoevering like parking. On the move there is less of a difference between an auto and semi auto.
Build quality on the Gallardo seems higher than the 430, but the 430 feels more bespoke.
Hope this helps.

I suppose you can only tell how it is through a test drive which I will try and arrange soon. I have a busy schedule at the moment so it will have to wait for a couple of weeks or so! The SL63 AMG/911 to me do not feel as special as the G or F430 or even the Bentley and so wouldn't really consider them. Those cars would probably be the sensible option but I have always wanted to own a Ferrari/Lamborghini! iandc said:

I am slightly disappointed by the E gear but again suppose after booking a test drive I can make a judgement if it I can live with it or not. Then again how "hard" can it be switching gears through the paddles. It looks like I will have to choose between my head or my heart. I do realise I will have to compromise on things buying a G or an F430 but you only get to live once as another member said on this thread!Alpinestars said:

All this leads down to is test driving both cars. I think it probably will be best to leave the E gear in semi auto which doesn't sound too bad. Still edging towards the G at the moment!

How about soemthing like a 612? Not as extreme as a G or 430, but special all the same. An 4 seat too. Early ones are definately availably at your kind of budget.
The 612 is a design which people love or hate and I am not too keen on it. Brilliant car in terms of the extra 2 seats available and being a Ferrari but with the FF coming out the car will not hold its value as well as I would want.Thank you everyone for your replies! They have really helped me a lot and I will keep you posted on how things turn out. Again thanks!
I thought that with the new gallardo probably (guessing) coming in around 2,3 years time, the price of used gallardos will go up because the new gallardo would likely go up in price as well and get closer to the 458? So with a bigger gap between the new new gallardo and used gallardos, the used gallardos would keep their value better? But reading another thread on PH, it will be the opposite because when the new new gallardo comes out, owners of the current gallardo will sell theirs and won't mind selling a few K's cheaper because they are upgrading anyway. Which one is more likely?

Unlikely, it didn't happen with the 430 due to the 458 being much more expensive.John.
