Has anyone owned or driven either in anger?

The reason i ask is there are mixed reviews of both. EVO says the 35is is brilliant in the twisties, everyone else says that theyre aweful. TopGear really liked the 35i, but everyone else not so much.

On a second point, why is the 35is only available with the dct gearbox? Is it due to that manual not being able to cope with the extra power and torque or is it just a BMW markting thing?

Thanks smile

...Can't be because the 1M Coupe has the same engine as 35iS and that comes only as a manual.

I own a 35iS and it is only available in DCT. 35i can be bought in manual.

I also owned a new shape 23i so I now have had two of these.

Think that says it all really.

Steering on the 35iS is totally different to the rest of the range and is much improved. It also has adaptive suspension as standard and this is what cures the handling issues.

It understeers but when you flick it in to sport and sport+ mode that pushy front end is well reined in but at the cost of reduced ride quality.

I've 19s on runflats and the ride quality doesn't bother me.

Drove home tonght in the dark roof down. I just love this car so much.

ETA

By the way. The Evo review is spot on. 35iS is the best car i've ever owned.

Maybe they are saving a manual version for the M one?

Otherwise the iS would be a remap away (in power terms), from an M.

Hmmm

Could be right there, however, BMW have said they won't do a Z4M again and they've never gone back on their word before!!!!!

Hehe, nope... never biggrin

I'd love to see an M version with some added manliness.

The current Z4 is just a bit too ghey for my tastes... a bit like the just gone SLK which only really would suit a bloke in AMG guise with lots of exhausts, vents, venty discs, etc etc biggrin

Thanks people, im going to go have a look at one today.

Re: the gearbox
i notice they have limited the torque of the 35i as well. It flat lines on the graph. Must be clutch of gearbox related surely scratchchin
