A straightforward pic hosting site for grown-ups?

Hi all,

I have a batch of pics that i want someone to be able to see, and/or others as people take an interest in a car. (They're of a car which is on a property i have taken over and i have no details of the owner, and i'm preparing myself for having to dispose of if i'm asked to do so).

I've just tried to host them on flickr, but dear oh god almighty, I don't want anything to do with anything as ridiculous as that site. "G'day Heebeegeetee. Now you know how to say hello in Australian" (!!!) WTF is all that about? I can see that i wandered in to Facebook land there.

So, is there anywhere that a chap with a tiny bit of a life going on can host some pics for others to see without having to devote hours to the task and without being treated like a complete idiot?

Just a simple, straightforward site where i can create a folder, give it a title, upload the pics, and then send the url (or whatever) on to others for them to see?

You could try Picassa or PhotoBucket.

I think I'm right in saying that most people in here use Flickr. As an adult why not just ignore the greeting and focus on the functionality it offers

Photobucket is rubbsih now they've changed to a flash based site, utterly slow & painfull now, I have not renewed my annual uprgrade subscription.

I too would like something simple, flash free & 100% functional & I don't mind paying for it

It wasn't just the greeting, it was the overcomplication (for me anyway) of the site, and the stupid greeting seems to be an example of this, for me.

Sites like that give me the creeps, it's as though people are living virtual lives (along with facebook etc) and have masses of spare time to be able to use sites like that.

In fairness i have a good friend who swears by flickr, but then he is retired and does have the time to make the use of it.

Anyway, i'll check out Picassa.

Give www.smugmug.com a look. They do a free trial for 14 days and you don't need to give credit card details during this time.
I use them and flickr but find smugmug give a lot more options for site design.
They are a family run business and actually seem to care about feedback via their forums.

Seriously though you can use Flickr without ever needing to go to the flickr.com site these days. There are a multitude of upload applications and a load of viewers that simplify the experience. Yes you need to go through the yahoo sign up process but once that is done.

I would upload using:
http://www.flickr.com/tools/uploadr/

And sends links to your friends using something like this:
http://www.fluidr.com/

There are loads of alternative options if you google.

I tried Picassa and it immediately grabbed all of my pics and began to upload them. I only want to host one album of a few pics.

Flickr uploader doesn't seem to be available for Windows 7, and the other seem to be trial-based.

Think i'll give up.

Erm, nope. Upload the files, put them in a set (if you want to) and that's it. I upload through lightroom, which means I don't have to look at the site to upload.

You don't have to join groups, you don't have to look at other people's photos or use any of the other functionality that flickr offers.
