Only noticed last night coming back from work and getting on at Paddingdon/ Bayswater A40 flyover outbound that there were huge 30mph signs painted in each lane every 500m or so....

Now I normally tube it into work but thought I would treat myself and drive in on this occasion.

When did the make it 30mph then??

Surely it's safe to do 40-50 on there?

That section of road is currently very confusing. '30' roundals on the Tarmac, a mixture of 30 and still some 50 signs by the road... And the road was originally designed to be motorway and 30 certainly feels too slow (IMO).

In any event, it's going to take proper signage and some serious efforts at enforcement to get people to take heed of a change in the limits. Most people cover the flyover at 50-70Mph in my experience, even when it was 50.

Exactly!

I was in my little Smart Brabus trying to stick to 30 mph new limit and i felt very vulnerable with people flashing me and flying past well over 50mph.

One think is for certain, the authorities need to sort out the joins between the tarmac block as they act almost like speed humps

Very confusing. Road says 30mph, signs say 50mph. Most of the traffic going in excess of 50-60 anyway.
Actually quite dangerous if you do drive at 30 as its a fast moving dual carriageway and are getting in everyones way.
I've also noticed a number of fast bikes and (normally Audis/BMWs) having to brake hard a the brow of the hill parallel to Westfield when confronted by stationary traffic the other side.

Also, have you noticed the lovely old 1960s Rolls Royce parked up near all the council houses a bit further up the road heading out of town? Seems like such a sad end for a lovely old girl.

Yes i did as a matter of fact notice the RR yesterday. It was parked on the inbound side.

Its a sliver and black 2 tone colour. Looks like a wedding car to me. Its HUGE!

Hope its not left there too long as it will be black with all the muck off the road when it rains.

There are no Speed Cameras and no hardshoulder/layby for Plod to set up a speed-trap, so I've always driven over there accordingly...

I reckon it's only a matter of time till they put cameras on the gantry bridges. Bet they are average speed cameras too.

I saw so many deaths on that stratch of road when I lived in Maida Vale - I saw it closed almost once a month in the summer when the bikers were out... not that surprised.

Not usually a fan of reducing speed limits but in this case I see why they'd do it in this case.

I am now prepared to be flamed.

It's nonsense to have a low speed limit there at all times

I do agree with you that it is a dangerous stretch of road but I think it's even more so now that the lighting has been removed altogether by the council.

I think the speed limit should be atleast set to 40mph

Agreed.

It's a struggle to keep to 30mph, traffic passes you around 20/30/40mph faster so there's a fair chance the road is now an awful lot more dangerous.

I'd take more notice of limits on signs than limits painted on the floor.
Are the numbers painted on the floor even enforceable?

Just driven this again Eastbound and there are '30' limit signs on temporary frames and all the 50 signs have been covered with bin liners.

Looks like it's 30 for the time being on this stretch of road.

Bin liners hmmmm... this must be in order to save money in order for the councils to concentrate on repairing the millions of pot holes!
