£500 Surround system
Discussion
Hi Guys,
My dad's in the rather envious position of having about £500 notes in his pocket for a surround system for his front room which he's currently redecorating. He's had good quality speaker cable installed in each corner of the room running to where the TV will live so is looking for recommendations for a receiver and speakers.
Any suggestions gratefully received .
Thanks!

'Sale' at Superfi at the moment (although to be honest I've no idea what difference that makes from their normal prices) has this Onkyo / Boston Acoustics (never heard of them) offering at £600:

I'm aware that £600 > £500, although this does seem to have good reviews.
They also have the same Sony package that the poster above linked to, but at more than the current Amazon price (which I guess supports the view that Amazon represents cracking value at the moment).
Were you looking for the kind of 5.1 package that's been suggested so far, or something with more 'traditional' speakers that I think may be better at also playing music?

Get them...I've got them...vair nice... with a Sony Amp (£239) from Richer sounds wonderful. At this price point, neat wiring, separate AV Amp and dedicated 5.1 speakers will be pretty much, much of a muchness.... can always upgrade each bit later if your dad's ears are more finely tuned...
