A mate of mine wanted to sell his rather tired 328i sport and had an offer of £500 for it. I thought it was probably worth a bit more so I offered to put it on ebay for him since he doesn't have an account if we split whatever it made over £500.

It's been on there since last night and has already generated quite a bit of interest (as I had thought it might), with an offer of £650 from someone to end the auction early.

What do you guys reckon this car is actually worth? My feeling is that we should just let the auction run but it would be good to know if any offers we get would be worth taking...

IMO it's got to be worth a lot more than that. Personally, I would have given it a really good clean, had the wheels balanced and put an MOT on it. For very little effort you could probably put a thousand pound more on it.

Yep agree with this, just looks like the seller couldn't be bothered when you see an advert like this. Even if it fails the MOT at least you would have a list of the things it's failed on so the new owner could decide how much of a money pit it's likely to be, as it is, it could be a complete money pit, or go straight through!

Yeh I think you're right, that's what I would have done if it were mine. In fact if it were mine I wouldn't be selling it!
I might offer to go and clean it myself and get some better photos before the auction ends... but without an MOT do you still reckon it's worth much more than £650?

i would think thats worth a grand easily. If you want to sell the plate seperately i'll give you a few quid for it. I cant see it increasing the value of the car and im after a cheapo one to hide mines age!

just the cross spokes and the private plate alone would be worth more than that to someone..let the auction run

How do you go about selling number plates? Is it fairly straightforward?
How much would you give for the plate?
Cheers

only ever done it once, but as far as i know its just a form from the post office.

£100?? Clearly worth more but i dont want/need a plate and i should probably fix my 328 sport before i go buying luxuries. I'm tempted to bid tbh, i need 2 front wings, a bootlid and wheels for my 328 (also a sport in montreal blue!) PM me if you fancy chatting about it.

It might be a good idea to take it off auction and re think. The replies you've had here should show you the interest.

Seriously? If it was MOTd, taxed and cleaned what should I expect it to fetch?
I could always buy it off him for £500, do that myself then sell? Not sure I fancy the risk/hassle. And I don't really want to drive it either in case it's too much faster than my 323i coupe!

With 12 months ticket on it, assuming it runs well and has no nasty droning sounds from box or diff and is not a rotter its got to be worth £1500 of someones money.

ETA; There are a pair of front seat on ebay in light grey, not perfect but better than those, no holes etc for £80. That is one issue sorted.

I'd cancel the auction (take the hit on the fee's). Spend £20 at your local polish car wash. Get a few bits like the steering issue sorted, stick 12 months ticket on it (if it's not really broken) and re list. Tell your mate you will go 50/50 on any profit over £650. It's worth a grand broken plus the plate is worth a bit.

Link has been censored for some reason, but I've just found out it was MOTd and serviced on March 2nd last year which means it is actually fine to drive on the road for the minute!

It's been censored because I don't think you can advertise on forums. Is he just interested in a sale or is he open to a deal on another car?

I wasn't advertising, I was asking for shared wisdom of BMW enthusiasts on a valuation. Absurd.

He's got another car actually now though so no, he's just looking to sell...

Thanks for that. I was thinking of moving my 323 on.
