Hey guys

Just seen an article about the mk1 that BBR are creating. It said in the article that you can get BBR to transform ur current mk1 for £5995. Anyone know if this is true and if so where it can be done? I am interested in doing this!

Err maybe BBR?

You can pay them to fit it, or fit it yourself, or pay another garage to fit it.

It is 'just' a BEGi kit rebadged though so you can save a big chunk of cash buying direct from BEGi and fitting yourself, you need to factor in some form of ECU/injectors for that option though.

I can't understand how they got so much power out of it with just a bolt on kit ? Surely they would have had to lower the compression ratio as well. I know its modern technology and everything and a new style tubo but seems very powerful for the little old 1.6 !!

Maybe you should research the MX5 a little bit more wink (try www.miataturbo.net but don't post any questions on there without researching throughlly, they don't suffer fools).

You can easilly extract over 250bhp reliably from a 1.6, you don't need to start lowering the compression till you near 300.

The engines weakest point is the rods, they bend first. A simple build with stronger rods and OEM everything else will get you an engine reliable for 300bhp, after that you start having to do everything else.

This is all assuming you have good engine management and adequeate fuelling.

If only I had the garage space I'd be building an MX5 based kit car myself too! Unfortunately there is barely enough space to even park my MX5 in my garage let alone do any work on it frown

What I really need is a secure and water-tight barn. Then I'd have all manner of different cars and projects on the go!

I hear you on the barn biggrin

When my car succums to the rust the engine/drivetrain are going into some form of kitcar.
