Over the two years that we've owned our E91 330d auto, fuel economy has resolutely stayed at 35.3mpg (per trip comp). The car has done 28k miles so should be 'run in'. OK, so it's the family car, but it's used for my wife's 20 mile each way, mostly motorway, commute. Before anyone mentions 'lady drivers', I've tried getting more on long mixed journeys myself, with no significant change (+0.5mpg). Surely we should be getting more mpg?

I have struggled to get anymore than 32mpg from my 330d's in the past and 30mpg from my 335d. I have a heavy right foot though!!!

My average is 42.8mpg over the 2 years of ownership. I use it all of the time including a 50 mile motorway commute with 30 minutes of city traffic jams both ends. Get about 500+ miles before the fuel light comes on.

Mine is a 2007 E92 330D coupe auto if that makes a difference

Worth checking without reference to the trip computer - our 320d shows 42mpg when giving 47mpg, whilst our 330d shows 43.4mpg whilst giving a true 42.5mpg...

Makes you wonder if diesel is worth the bother with figures like that frown

I have a 2009 E91 330D and over the last year and 8000 miles it's returning 43mpg or 6.5l/100km. Well pleased with that since it's a 6-cyl 3 litre diesel auto smile

2006 e90 330d auto with dms remap never showed more than 32 mpg on the trip computer. It was never driven economically though.

There is a massive difference between the pre facelift and post facelift cars, especially in auto guise.

30-35 is the norm for pre facelift and 38-45 is the norm for post facelift, and then there is the 245bhp 330d for a year or so ago, sure this will help even more.

All facelift E90 and E91 have the 245bhp N57 engine.

About 18 months of prefacelift E92 and E93 have it as well.

We've got an early 2008 car with the slightly lower power (the uneconomical one by the sound of it then!). I was wondering whether to convince my wife that remapping could liberate better economy ("oh, and fancy that, it seems to be more powerful too........."), but seriously, can you realistically get gains in economy from a remap without loss of power? I wouldn't want a remap just for economy sake by the way.

I think the 330d got a few tweaks along with the efficient dynamics in early 2007, then the new engine in 2008 with the LCI.
I always think of the ED change as a facelift too as there were a alot of changes with things like the 320d getting more power, different engine, new gearbox etc.
