hi folks just bought my girlfriend a 2001 1.8 mondeo.when i got the car the temp gauge wasnt working properly and the the revs a bit high at idle.i put a new thermostat in the car today and after running for 10mins the temp gauge was fine a so was the revs(great i thought)unfortunatly when taking it for a drive it has now developed a problem.when i dip the clutch the car stalls i.e when approaching a roundabout or junction.the car starts fine and also idles fine.any ideas.thanks

I had that exact problem on a MK1 Mondeo. I tried alsorts including a mates computer in his garage which found no faults. Car only showed fault on the move and when you dipped the clutch, changing down at very low speed.

Eventually I changed the road speed sensor on the gearbox and cured the problem. The sensor is supposed to tell the ECU to reduce the fuel supply as the car is slowing down, mine was faulty and was cutting the fuel off altogether hence the engine cutting out then restarting and running perfectly.

Don't know if the MK3 has a similar sensor but its worth a look.

I'd take the idle control vavle off and give it a good soaking in carb cleaner from an aerosol can.

I'm not sure how much the components cost new from Ford, might be worth ringing them first before you go to the scrrappers.
