Greetings from Mallorca. It's warming up here, and already we are seeing a few tourists milling around in shorts and T's (I'm still in jeans and two layers, and a jacket in the morning!)
Anyway, to the point. After finishing up at work tonight, I popped up to do a couple of hours work on my second house project as I do most nights. It's about 12 km inland.
I finished there just after 7.00pm and started to drive back home.
It's dark by then, and the drive back is a 100kmh main road which is unlit, and very dark. Lots of cars coming the other way, and the oncoming lights are quite dazzling.
Next thing I see something at the side of the road that catches my eye just as I'm upon it, a bit of refelctive tape.
fk me! Two cyclists with no lights, not even on the front!
What is it with these fking idiots? madfurious
If I had killed them, It would have been my fault, according to the law here, and I would have to live with it for the rest of my life.
We get inundated with thousands of them every year, and every year my wife has to deal with them at the local Hospital.
She was telling me only yesterday, they're coming in alredy. One case was two German fellows on a Tandem had taken a tumble. Can you believe? the guy on the back was Blind! eek
I despair at humanity. frown
Moan over. (I moan about the road lice every year) just had to get it off my chest. smile

Not entirely sure I see a huge issue with someone on the back of a tandem having no vision.

Unless they'd just swapped...

What control do you think the rider at the back of a tandem has?

I used to ride tandems with blind stokers (the ones on the back). Its very common way of giving blind people new experiences or continuing sports they can no longer do.
Just need to give them advance notice of braking, cornering etc.

And yes, on the road (with appropriate lighting though!)

Well for a start off he has to lean the right way, and he won't see any aproaching hazards he has to react quickly to.

Anyone who can't see the danger of a blind man on the back of a bike, on busy roads, especialy with how the Spaniards drive, maybe should come over and take it up.
It'll help Darwins theory along nicely. rolleyes

Not been on the back of a tandem but rode on the back of motorbikes when I was younger. If the rider's sensible i.e. not pretending to be riding a short circuit then I didn't find it essential to see ahead.
