Hi all, a relative has had an accident, her fault, and she is currently insured with Direct Line.

She was expecting to lose all of her no-claims bonus, But I think that as she has 4 years NCB, she may only lose some of it. Does anyone have a definitive answer?

Thanks

Tim

Would depends if she had protected NCB, no? Otherwise she'd lose it at all.. At least, that's always what I figured if that helps laugh

Sorry, I thought that it was obvious that it isn't protected...

It will depend on the insurer, but you'll generally lose 2-3 years NCB per claim

I lost two years' for a huge crash. I think two years is standard, so if you crash regularly you lose more than you gain.

Yes. Tell her to read her policy, or if she can't find it, ask Direct Line.

What do her policy documents say?

I had my car stolen this year and because no-one was caught, it went down as a fault claim and I lost 2 years NCB. Direct Line were my insurers, and pretty much the most inept company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with.

Probably written in crayon.

Boy, there are some clever people posting tonight. It's the first accident she's had, is going to speak to her Insurer first thing, as she's shaken up by the accident and I was hoping to give her some positive news tonight!

As in my first post, I'm looking for HELPFUL, informed answers.

Tim,
Sorry if you feel that way, but most people replied helpfully saying to the best of their knowledge she would lose 2 year's NCD, which is more than likely the case. But Insurers and policies vary, so the only way to be sure is to consult the actual policy in question or refer to the Insurers if you can't do that.

While I appreciate that some of the replies were genuine attempts at helping as requested, some were pointless.

I don't understand why people bother posting if they don't know the answer or even worse, attempt to turn the situation into a joke.

I do appreciate all of the genuine replies, as always though!
