E60 / 61 M5 Dual Mass Flywheel Q?
Discussion
Euro Car Parts stock a LUK dual mass flywheel and Sachs clutch kit for the E60 M5.
These are the only ones on offer, so I suspect they will be original equipment.
I can't see it being a big enough market for anyone who's not got the contract for supplying them to BMW to go to the bother of making them.

Fair point. What confuses me is why BMW charge £1200 for a fly if the LUK ones are £550.
Because they can!!! Luk are the company that developed the dual mass flywheel in the first place & afaik no one else makes them although i would not be surprised if the likes of Sachs, valeo etc had started producing them now, assuming Luk dont hold a patent for them which is possible

LUK make the best ones though (DMF's).
On second thoughts............!
Got a return email today from LUK to see if the part advertised by Euro Car Parts is actually the correct part. Turns out the part they are selling is for the US spec manual 6 speed and not our SMG 7 speed!! Why the hell are they selling that over here? Is it also used in a different model maybe? But why have it on the UK E60/E61 parts listing?
My next question is...... who does make the fly for our cars then?

Eddie are you sure your clutch is mullered?
No! I dont think it is to be honest. I dont think many owners who had new clutches fitted were mullered. This is why i have taken on this task of finding out all i can about the SMG system and its flaws. Im booked in wedensday morning with the Master Tech at Scotthall to see what he can gleen from a road test wired up to the diagnostics equipment. Ive still had no judder but his laptop / computer will be able to tell me if there is any interuption or delay in the shift process which could in theory prove my point about the poor design of the realease bearing and guide bush. If there is anything wrong then we can look at the options. If its a warranty job then no dramas, i'll just have them fix it and i'll rake all the info i can on the issue. If its not warranty covered then i'll have my indy change the clutch and again i'll colate all the findings into a days worth of live updates on here.
My issue with the clutch is that there is no slippage anywhere. If there was i could agree it was worn. Its perfect all the time and never misses an beat. Its just that since the judder ive had a niggle on my mind that says, 'its that bloody guide bush issue that the dealerships dont want to agree on'! If i can prove it then it may change the future of clutch repairs on these cars.

E60 6 speed gearbox/clutch is the same as the E46 M3 or the E92 M3 I believe, though with a different flywheel obviously.Got a return email today from LUK to see if the part advertised by Euro Car Parts is actually the correct part. Don't quote me on it though.

The 6 speed box in the us spec version is the same box used in the e39 M5 so that may be why its listed for the e60 as well.Got a return email today from LUK to see if the part advertised by Euro Car Parts is actually the correct part. Eddie, if I eventually buy one of these cars it will be because of research like this done by people like you mate
Looking forward to hearing about what the master tech thinks is a matter with your car
Great work mate
Keep your eyes on the forum as next friday i'll be posting up a live clutch refit.Looking forward to hearing about what the master tech thinks is a matter with your car

The parts are returnable so if the clutch is fine when we pull the box I can return the unused items. That said, at those prices I might aswell change them to save doing it at a later date. I can see your point but I'm fed up with the niggle and just want a fresh start. A new clutch, fly and bearing should give me this peace of mind and the findings should help future owners.
