Wheel/Tyre Size Poll

Following on from the wheel/tyre size thread. Here are 2 Audi A6's both with factory fit wheels. Which do people think look best? This is not a a debate about the dynamics of one wheel vs another, its subjective aesthetics.

small (ish) 17 inch wheels


Larger 19 inch wheels

I definitely prefer the smaller wheels on that car, although that might be because subconsciously I know the larger ones will ruin the way it drives. I suspect I'll be in a minority, anyway.

I think it's also to do with the tyre profile. Much below a 40 profile starts to look stupid IMO.

I've got 18s on the A5. Though I like the look of the 19s, the ride is much harsher, and the tyres 25% more. 17s look a bit small.

big wheels might look good buy they can spoil the ride quality if looks are considered more important than functionality & are more susceptible to alloy damage ... with the way UK roads are with potholes a taller section tyre seems a wiser choice imo.
second A6's wheels look too big with limited suspension travel ... only any good on smoothest of roads

I have voted purely on the 2 pictures, not driving dynamics or run flats etc, purely what looks better

Its very subjective though as I prefer the colour of the second car and it looks like it has some sort of kit plus sitting lower?

I like the 19s better, but only because I prefer the style of that wheel.

Bigger wheels (not 20's on a clio!) look better imo. I hate the "look" of tyres with a profile over 45. Which I know ruins the ride etc but who would buy an M3 with 16's a a 60 profile!? No, they want the 19's or 20's with the 35 profile.

My car came with 16"s and l had some spare cash which i could of put 18"s but went for 17"s.

Over all look is what i went for as the 18"s look over kill to me.

Depends on the car, I have a classic Mini so it'd look stupid with huge wheels on.

As with lots of things - bigger is better, unless you get too big, in which case smaller is better.

In context do you still have it on 8" wheels (i think they were 8's!) or is it on 13" minilites???

annoyingly those images aren;t appearing for me.
generally larger wheels do look better.
but as kambites says there's always a thought that they eff it up which puts you off.

cars that look better on smaller wheels:

RRS
caterham (i always stood up for the 15"s but the 13"s are actually better).
i also prefer the cayman s on the stock 17"s compard to the 19" optional type ones..

Then its going to have a very poor ride. S-line plus big wheels = harsh ride in my experience. Looks good, but dymanically the smaller wheels and SE suspension is nicer to live with.

I have lived with it for 4 years and plan to keep it for another 3. The ride is firm but stops the kids getting car sick and feels much more responsive and tighter on fast bends etc. We have a very smooth riding Subaru Outback and the kids hate it.

I went for the 17s but TBH, even they're too big. If they don't fully fill the wheel arch, lower profiles look silly IMHO.

My A6 runs on 16s and looks OK and drives extremely well.

Nice to know, I collect stock 16" to put on my A6 tomorrow (currently has 18", one cracked).
