Following on from my previous 'rant' I've just ordered a TomTom Via Live 120 Europe from TomTom £159.99. If you already have a TomTom you get a good discount...(R.R.P £199.99)ask for it! It includes 1 year of map updates transferred from my XL routes!

I went for this because as well as having 4Gb approximately of memory (that leaves 1.5Gb of space)it 'unofficially' has an SD card slot. I was told that its under a sticker on the bottom of the unit and although 'at the moment' it dosn't function as soon as it is needed its there to use! Amazingly the 1000 & 1005's don't have a slot so when (and this should be quiet a while!) the 4Gb is exceeded these machines will have the same memory/map/zone trouble.

The 1000 series has a fluid touch screen (like an I-Pod) and is a little quicker but I wasnt to bothered about that, especially at £100 more!

Can you tell me where the info came from about the "unofficial" sd card socket ?

I can't find any reliable info on this.

Images of the inside of the device appeared on the FCC web site a while ago that confirmed the existance of the memory card slot, MicroSD as I recall rather than SD but as yet its not activated for use by the device software - Mike

Phone up TomTom and speak to a member of the customer sales team. You're not going to need it for a while because there is over 1500mg of internal memory inside it which equates to at least 4 or 5 large map upgrades!
