Video: Ferrari FF 'Off Road'

The fascinating new Ferrari FF sideways at speed on snow and sand

In case you were wondering why Ferrari needs a 4x4 in its line-up, here's the answer - the ability to enjoy pure unadulterated hooning off the beaten track.

Whether future owners of the unique new supercar will feel able to thrash their new FF across the paddock or ski slopes in the manner of a Bowler off-roader probably depends more on the size of their bank balance than their level of mechanical sympathy, but it all looks great fun for those who can afford it.

So does this all make the Cayenne Turbo redundant? And who's going to be first with an aftermarket FF lift kit?

that video has just made me notice the front grill that's been nicked from a pug!

Is it really going to be called 'FF'? I think they could have came up with a better name than that.

Are they trying to say that it's practical? I wouldn't fancy getting stuck in sub-zero temperatures when the damn thing breaks down.
I wonder what car they used to film it...

Question here is...can you use that car like you can use a panamera as a daily car with decent service intervals?

If it is made out of cheese..then I cant see it selling. If it is reliable and can do the miles..then it will sell.

What mechanism is there to afford a speedy exit for rear-seat passengers when it [inevitably] catches fire?

The only prospective customers with sufficient funds, bad taste and an urge to drive off road in a Ferrari are the oil rich arabs. This being the case theys should really have filmed it on sand dunes.

Two years from now they will release the scuderia version. The 'Ferrari FFS' has a certain ring to it.

I presume the car lineup at the start was for a magazine test? One set up for sand, one for snow, one for straight tarmac and one for corners?

This IS the type of car that Ferrari need to produce - OK, it may or may not be successful, but they need to push into niche markets and create their own areas of success! Who would think that a 4x4 shooting brake would sell? Dont know, but hell, if Ferrari cant, no one can!

So the madder the better - bring it on Ferrari - I want to see some odd balls coming out over the next few years. Some will work, some wont, but boy, we are going to enjoy seeing them!

Well after all the 'humorous' responses...

I bloody love this car. I think it looks fantastic (have seen it in the metal and it's much better than photos), sounds amazing, comfortably seats 4, all-weather grip, great stuff.

Good to see from the video that it has really good wheel travel too, essential for a good GT, especially on UK roads.

Usually I just read these rather than contribute, but some of the comments on here are so off base I felt compelled to get stuck in!

Quite how the car can be called 'ugly' is a bit of a mystery to me... the first comparison people seemed to draw when the first pics came out was that the side profile was quite like the Z3 Coupe, which was a beautiful, distinctive car that drew a lot of attention. Of course, if you're the sort of person that appreciates the looks of Jodi Marsh over someone like Liv Tyler, then I can understand your confusion in this area and you have my pity!

It's clearly an aggressive-looking thing and has plenty of dramatic lines that make the design far more innovative that some of its blander and more predictable competitors. It's nice to see Ferrari hasn't simply upsized an existing model like some of its Western European neighbours... It just looks like a well-resolved design that's been designed for purpose, rather than something with stranger proportions. The backend of a car in this segment is always going to be the most difficult bit to get right I would imagine and I think the FF has got a much better solution in the derriere department than some other four-seat supercars.

At least you have a car that's basically the answer to a question about how to improve capability and overall performance rather than one with seemingly no real rationale whatsoever - like a certain German vehicle which was basically designed (and this is pretty much what the chief designer said) because "people like coupes and people like SUVs". LOL!

It's a Ferrari. End of.

I think the shape is fantastic. The front grille with the headlights like that, well, don't do it for me. It looks a bit too much like an angry cartoon face.

I guess it must be seen in the metal.
