My mate had a TVR and......
Discussion
Does anyone get tired of the "my mate had a TVR" storys?
"My friend had a TVR, he drove over a puddle and all the electrics shorted and killed everyone within a 4 mile radius"
"A guy I know had a TVR, He didnt start it for 4 days, came back to it and the doors had melted onto the bodywork"
"I knew a bloke with a TVR, it climbed through his window at night and dropped its full weight on his face and killed him instantly"
Seriously though, it does amuse me how everyone (who's closest experience to owning a TVR is being near one as it drives past) is a bloody expert!

I get tired of hearing the opinions of people who have never owned, driven or even been a passenger in a TVR. Yet having watched Top Gear or read an old copy of some rag at the barbers, suddenly consider their POV to be fact.
An easy reply is "Which TVR did you own and why did you sell it?"
Chances are they own a Golf, a diesel one. "Very reliable you know. Look good in black. Economical too. Fit two or even three adults in the back." Blah blah blah.

My Griff was the most reliable car I ever owned, the Cerbera not so, certainly in the first year of ownership when I actually threw the keys back at the Service Manager in my local dealer. However, 9 years on it is the longest I've ever owned a car. It's the automotive equivalent of Kylie Minogue, you'd just forgive her anything (potential for this to go off topic with the usual Danni vs Kylie debate?).
The thing that bugs me the most is the kit car comment

When we first got the Griff it was a case of ` Well i hope you`ve got good break down cover and repatriation back up north ` from a particular group of so called mates. Since we changed the Griff to a Tuscan we now get ` it looks a bit more modern like a proper car ` . I`ve had a series of performance Fords and Vauxhalls in the past (including a calibre turbo that boiled itself to death when stood in traffic, and a cosworth that was no more than a liability and theft magnate) that have been anything but reliable. Being different in what we drive is always going to be contreversial so just smile and enjoy.
Last night I got into my car after coming out of the chippy.A young fella knocks the passenger window, and when I put the window down he says what sort of car is this mate ,it's awesome.Told him and then left him with the experience of a decatted Sag leaving its noisy calling card.
He wasn't worried about it's possible reliability problems, and neither am I.
More smiles per mile than any other car I have ever owned.
