Bournemouth/ Poole Speed limits
Discussion
Posted this in SP&L, though some of you may like to see it here;
Evening,
Has anyone else noticed the relatively recent decline in NSL roads in favour of 50/40/30 limits?
Let me explain. I live in Bournemouth and until recently we had a few sensibly posted limits about the place but over the last year everything has gone tits up.
For example;
The road around Bournemouth Airport, used to be 60, now 40
The Dorset Way from Tower Park to Holes Bay used to be a nice 70mph(and perfectly straight)dual carriageway, its now 50.
The road between Bear Cross and Longham is now 40, used to be 60.
All of the above has happened in the last 12 months, what the hell is going on and how can it be reversed?

You're forgetting the spur road through Bournemouth reduced again from 50 to 40!
They claim accidents and deaths are the reason for the drops on these road (which I know have happened), but I'm not convinced speed was the primary factor in the majority of cases.
Seems like the councils are taking the easy options and not actually interested in improving road safety in our county.
There, rant over......

Why though?
It's not like that road has had a lot of accidents on it, has it?
That was a good hoon up there when it's quiet!
One of my favourite hoons. It's all to do with the Airport and Alice in Wonderland I believe it. Thoroughly un excusable, same as when they did the Avon Causeway, my favourite short distance hoon. It's not like that road has had a lot of accidents on it, has it?

Im about to do the same, who did you address it to and what was their response?
Can't remember his name but if you search back a couple of pages on the south coast forum you will find my letter. The topic was something like, 'is this a bit harsh?'. Either that or it'll be on my profile under topics I started.nick1275 said:
ive used dorset way a fair bit lately even at 50 i still seem to be overtaking stuff, and undertaking it going up the sliproad from fleetsbridge to join the carrigeway. it was utterly pointless changing the limit
Frankly the couple of times I've driven down there since the change a lot of people are still doing 70-80 like we always used to. So as long as the Feds continue thier "light" enforcement attitude down there then frankly Poole Council can f
k themselves.It's clear to anyone who followed the announcement that the KSI facts trotted out by Poole Council to justify this stupid decision are as weak as those used by Bournemouth council to impose car-park like speeds on the Wessex Way.
People in Bournemouth should also take note that the 40mph limit on the Wessex Way was supposed to have been a 6 month experiment. When the statistics didn't prove what they wanted they extended the trial by another 6 months claiming that they needed more data... on a dual carriageway which carries 15,000 cars a day... The 12 months are up next month, I wonder what s
t justification will be trotted out to justify another extension, or are the transport mongs going to be big enough to restore the 60mph limit we used to enjoy without incident?don't know if it's normal but i've had the chance to drive alot more during daylight hours recently (instead of just commuting in morning/evening darkness) and noticed a lot of speed limit enforcement in operation locally... mobile cam van south facing at end of cooper dean northbound on-slip, back to back vans in the centre of the a31 new forest section, unmarked focus on cop car launch ramp on dual carriageway hard shoulder etc . . . is there a blitz going on in the area to capitalise on reduced limits??
