Finding Rural Property to Let. Where to start?

I'm currently looking for a rural property with my partner. We're after a 2 Bed, picturesque idea in Perthshire/Stirlingshire or Midlothian. I'm currently on an estate, just outside Edinburgh. We're just both thinking that we could find somewhere better value for money. Currently we're paying £600PCM - in a late 19th Century Cottage. Its a beautiful area, but we're both studying in Stirling, and will likely be going to St. Andrews come next year. We're both students, but both work.

We got the place we have by just going into the estate office. Easy enough, but the problem is, we're not sure which estates have property to let in the areas we're looking at. Short of looking at stately home registers or something, is there a list somewhere? Any advice regarding approaching estates that do not advertise quite so publicly?

Any advice would be much appreciated.
