Not long after christmas my next door neighbors dog decided to make its self a nice hole in the fence panel. Since then its been coming in ripping up the lawn and using it as a toilet. I told my neighbor to fix the fence as it is his property (well the councils at least), he did this with the top of a old computer desk. As you can guess this was as good as a chocolate fireguard and has kept coming in, unfortunately I'm always at work to chase it out. My wife won't chase it because shes scared of said dog, which also jumps at the patio doors leaving nice muddy paw prints.

It has since got to the point that most of the grass is gone and I won't let my daughter go in the back garden because of the crap in there. Every time I pull my neighbor up on this he will same he'll sort it, but never does. I'm now getting crap from my neighbor on other side because the dog has decided to go in to his garden via my garden, who just compiled to the police about "my dog".

Now the problem as got worse due to the high winds we had in cumbria and a tree felling incident on my part the fence has been wiped out. The councils been round and said they'll replace the fence, but that was three weeks ago.

What do you think my next step should be?

Get on to the council and push for a speedy resolution, citing any crime references, incident numbers etc that you can get hold of. In the meantime, block it from your side too, using any old desks, bits of wood or whatever that you have handy.

Three out of the four panels where taken out due to the high winds. The thing is he just puts his mutt out for a hour or so and just lets it do what ever it wants. I wasn't given a crime reference number, as soon as the officer said there was a problem with "my dog" I told them where to go.

I'll give the council a ring first thing on monday, hopefully they'll get something in gear.

The problem with council properties that some councils (including mine) will only take care of the first 6 feet of boundary. As both my neighbours are council, that means I'm actually responsible for all boundaries to my garden - if I want it to remain fenced, that is.

Bag up the dogst and put it on his doorstep?

If you're feeling really evil put it in a burning paper bag and ring the doorbell hehe

recall a post somewhere - the aggrieved guy made friends with the dog and after a few weeks of it being stroked, he got some nice gloves and a bag of fresh doggy poo and rubbed the poo into the dog's fur

apparently the problem got fixed right away smile

I don't understand why you can't block it up from your side (mesh, block of wood whatever) until the council get round to fixing it?!

Have you thought of contacting the local dog warden ? keep hold of the dog ring the warden and say you found a poor stray doggie in your garden, remember to remove its collar.

....or just go round and punch your neighbour its gone on long enough for him to sort it.

I infer that your neighbour's property is council-owned, in which case the council (or other Registered Social Landlord (RSL) if management has been contracted out) has a duty to consider this under its ASB responsibilities. You could investigate this route.
Alternatively, I am given to believe that a liberal dusting of powdered pepper is an effective deterrent.
