Looking for a good honest classic soft top for pootling around in during the summer months. Thinking MG midget or B roadster. Doesn't have to be immaculate. Tax free would be a bonus. What other suggestions does the PH massive have???

Surely the good ole MX5 is a much better bet than clunky antiques from 50 years ago?

Cost of tax disc is utterly trivial now that petrol costs £100 a tank!

A nice MG Midget would get my vote, or alternatively as a modern classic I'd really be considering an M100 Lotus Elan.

FFS rolleyes 5k for a later 90bhp 1.6 MX-5. You'd get a much nicer and not dog slow '5 for less money.

You could get a very decent series Land Rover for that money.

A TVR would be a great choice if you've got the money and time to keep on top of the repairs it will need. For a cheaper, more reliable alternative I'd look at the MX5. A mkI if you're really watching the buget or a MkII if you're prepared to spend a little more. Either will provide great fun whilst being quite hardy and realiable.

I'm not sure I'd go for the Elan or any FWD type thing because it just doesn't fit with the image I have of driving around in the summer with the roof down in a RWD sports car.
