My M5 is sat in a pool of it's own fluids, I have tried to contact the dealer to ask his opinion with no success. I'm now away until Monday should I:
a) Ring the recovery company (BMW Warranty) on Monday and get then to pick it up.
Or
b) Persist with trying to contact the dealer, and take the car in myself on Monday.
I'm inclined to do the first but don't know if I'm being especially awkward because the dealer can't be bothered to return my calls.
Any suggestions or ideas what the cause of the leak may be?

Definatley oil, it is dripping from a plastic cover which is just behind the front bumper.
I parked on some concrete last night and there was a patch the size of a saucer when I went back after 30 minutes.
It looked like the Exon Valdez had hit the curb next to my car this morning with the mix of rain and oil running down the street.

What year is the car? If its an early car there is a slim change a pipe may have perished.
The only thing i could think of is that its blown an oil pipe. The sump should not leak uness its been grounded and cracked - unlikely. Other than that its all hoses and pipes.
Have you recently topped up the oil? Check the filler cap hasnt gone AWOL.

Ring the recovery company.
If it's BMW Emergency Service through your BMW warranty, then you will be guaranteed a courtesy car while yours is off the road, whether the actual fault is covered by the warranty or not.
If you take it into the BMW dealer yourself, then they are under no obligation to supply you with a car.

It's a 2006 car, I don't usually drive it too much just on a weekends, although in the last 2 weeks I have done 1200 miles, that would normally take me 3 months in my normal routine.Have you recently topped up the oil? Check the filler cap hasnt gone AWOL.
The cap was on yesterday and the top of the engine is clean, it looks like it is pooling up on the plastic cover and then dripping through where this cover joins the bumper.
The dealer told me to do exactly what M5Dave suggested, so it will be a call to Mondial on Monday.
Thanks for the help.
Sean
The car went in to the dealers on Tuesday, and I got a call this morning telling me the oil cooler is damaged, and that the warranty will not cover the replacement (£995 + VAT).
I am the only person who drives the car and I have definatley not hit anything. How would the oil cooler get damaged?
I have told them to carry on and replace it, but to keep the old part so I can have a look at it. What should I be looking for? As I said the car is not damaged (as far as I know) and the oil cooler is hidden away so damaging it without damaging the car would be difficult.
Help?

The cooler was leeking from the joint.
The dealer had found that the lower grill was loose (not damaged) and had made the assumption that whatever caused this damage had hit the cooler hard enough to twist this joint and cause the leak.
My questions for them was that there is no visible damage to the Oil Cooler so it must be faulty and that the assumption that the damage to the grill was related could not be proved.
They then came back and told me that the clips which held the Oil Cooler to the car were damaged which proved there must of been an impact, when I asked to see the clips I was told that they were still on the car, I pointed out that they were damaged and was then told they were thrown away!
I ended up paying for the repair, what should/can I do now?

Could well be a manufacturing fault if its leaking from a joint. When it comes to making a claim under warranty they will do and tell you anything they can to get out paying and make you foot the bill just as all insurance companies do.
It must've been one hell of a stone and impact to make the oil cooler twist and cause the joint to fail!!
Ideally you need someone in the know to have a look at the oil cooler and see if they can figure out whats happened.
If you think you have a case though i would pursue it.If you dont stand up to insurance/warranty companies they will continue to just take your money then take the piss!!
Best of luck.
