Guys, just a quick question.

I understand that you are now only able to register one name on a V5 document.

I have joint ownership of a car with a friend. Having one of us on the V5 is fine for the UK (and to us), however the concern is that for jaunts into Europe (where taking the V5 is recommended as proof of ownership) depending on which one of us is using the car, the V5 will not record that driver is the registered owner. Both names will obviously be on the insurance.

Any comments or suggestions? Or am I being too wary?

Thoughts of being pulled over by the intimidating Gendarmes or Spanish police and having my pride and joy confiscated are running through my mind!!

Regards.

Wouldn’t see it as a real issue, having driven a few cars owned by other people in mainland EUSSR, if in doubt they could always check with police here for confirmation it’s not stolen

alternatively

1: Carry some sort of document drawn up by a solicitor, stating that the car is owned by two people

Or

2: Establish a limited company with both partners owning 50%, transfer ownership of the car to the LTD co and simply carry the V5 and details of shareholders with you

Copy of the V5 and letter of authorisation for the one who isn't named on the V5.

Not sure why they require this as the name on the V5 is that of the registered keeper and not necessarily the owner.

Isn't the insurance cover note linking to the name on the v5 and the policy enough.
