Got a week off booked at the end of May and quite fancied a jaunt through the tunnel across to Munich to have a nose round BMW World in Munich. The plan is entirely flexible, but in my head is as follows:

Day 1 Durham -> Folkestone, overnight stay somewhere nearby.
Day 2 Calais -> Somewhere around 4-5 hours away, overnight stay, suggestions welcome
Day 3 Somewhere -> Munich, overnight stay
Day 4 Munich, overnight stay
Day 5 Munich -> attractive German town, somewhere like Wuzburg?, overnight stay, suggestions welcome
Day 6 Attractive German town -> somewhere within four hours of Calais, Luxembourg, perhaps? route suggestions welcome.
Day 7 Calais -> long drag home to Durham

So basically we're looking at a two night stay in Munich with a day or so either side to get there and back. Car is an E65 BMW so range not a problem, 600 miles on a tank is easily done but is a bit big for tiny mountain passes, perhaps, not that I'd be averse to having a go. Brickbats, suggestions, hotel ideas all welcome chaps, ta.

What sort of price range are you thinking for the hotel. I have heard very good things about the Flemming Hotel. Its in Shwarbing and almost on the U3 ubahn which is the same line as bmw welt.

Well the tunnel is only about £90 and I have a fuel account so the only real cost is hotels and tolls. We like nice hotels and I'll usually pick a hotel and then shop around for the cheapest deal. Say, £150-£200 a night at the outside....

Ok we've got a plan:

Day 1 Calais -> Bruges
Day 2 Bruges -> Luxembourg
Day 3 Luxembourg -> Tubingen, Black Forest
Day 4 Tubingen -> Munich
Day 5 Munich, BMW Welt tour
Day 6 Munich -> Troyes, France
Day 7 Troyes -> Calais

None of the legs are that long, apart from Munich to Troyes, which is intentional as I don't want to spend more than a few hours in the car at a time. My wife wants to take her Z4 instead now which worries me from the luggage capacity standpoint (she doesn't travel light!) but if the weather's nice will be worth it as we're touring some picturesque places. What is central Europe like in mid-May? I can push it forward to early June if that'd make any difference. Anyone been round this way, got any thoughts or suggestions?

If you are going to Munich, might as well go to Garmish. Also, while in Munich, check out the Deutsches Museum. Its miles ahead of the BMW one.

I'd pass on Luxembourg if it was me. Kind of worth seeing I guess kind of.
It is pretty dull though.

To be fair Luxembourg is just a pit stop en route to the Black Forest and is a tick in the 'I've been to Luxembourg' box. We won't be there long. A pal of mine lived there and says the city centre is quite picturesque. We'll see.

In the Black Forest I would suggest Pension Williams in Seebach. Owned & run by an English couple (who just happen to be me & my wife!)
Have a look at the website www.pension-williams.de

David, I've already got things booked but we'll look you up next time through.

Quite excited about this trip now. Does anyone know what the weather's like in June in the Black Forest and Munich?
