Ok, so it's coming up to 'significant age' birthday time, the big 3-0. I'm about 98% that it's going to end up with me buying a watch to commemorate/commiserate (delete as applicable) so it's time to start weighing up what I want. The problem is, I really want a PO.

The PO I want, and will probably get will end up being 45mm, non-chronograph as I like the clean looks of it. The dilemma I have with this is the colour choice, in that I don't know how the orange will wear. I really like the orange/orange version, but two things make me hesitate; 1: seems like it's the default PO that people buy, 2: everyone knows what it is. My thoughts were originally to buy the black bezel/orange numerals version and that way if I really really wanted the full orange, I'd be able to send it to Omega and have the bezel changed for the orange one, but that got me to thinking that it looks like a bitsa-watch, and that the orange numerals might look out of place.

So, full orange, semi orange, or no orange PO - that is my dilemma. Help!?!

In closing, I really like the Liquid Metal PO which has no orange on it, so this might swing the result in the no orange favour. (I'd get one of these myself but the premium over the standard model is a little too much to stomach!)

Thinking about it, the liquid metal would be my chioce. I am not sure of the price difference but it is always nice to wear something a little bit special.

Can you get some pics up to aid those of us who are less than well informed?

Full Orange:

Semi Orange

No Orange

Liquid Metal

The LM is out of the question unfortunately, looking at around £2k for the regular PO, jumping to £3.5-£4k for the LM, it is limted to 1,948 pieces though and it is only the 42mm version.

Orange has no places on watches in my humble opinion.

When you're 70 do you still want to be wandering round with a bright orange watch on?

Couldn't disagree more. If done tastefully, I think orange works very well on some watches.

Exactly the same choice I have... For the same reason.

I have voted full orange as that's the one I am almost certainly going for.

I have tried them on and the orange isn't as in-yer-face as you might think from the pics.

It's a divers watch and I think orange 'just works' on it.

I looked at some Speedies too as I thought I have more in common with the 'point' of a speedmaster than a divers watch, but I just found the PO to be far more to my taste. It felt more substantial, less delicate, and the simple looks of the non-chrono 45 were utterly enthralling...

I was hoping to find a pre-owned Franck Muller as my first choice (good grief they are beautiful watches), but finances simply don't allow, and the pre-owned market isn't exactly flooded with choice. I reckon that when owners come to flip a FM and find out the HUGE depreciation they suffer, they just decide to keep them.

As regards the 'common' nature of the watch, well I don't know anybody else who has one, but I guess it depends on the circles you move in. They are popular for a reason, and that reason is they are lovely things.

Don't buy to be different, or to be the same for that matter. Try one on, touch it look at it, enjoy it. If it gives you a tingle, then it's the watch for you.

Having £2k to spend is a nice place to be, though it's difficult to decide what's right, especially for a birthday present as it is pretty much law that it must be a keeper.

I do wonder if those that have £8k, or £10k or more to spend agonise about the choice of watch in the same way. I am willing to wager they do.

I voted for the 'no orange', though would have also voted for 42mm as well. I think that they work best given the more subtle colour and size smile

Yes I like Orange on watches, but I like bright colours in general.

I should qualify my opinions by saying that I own an Orange Monster (and have had lots and lots of positive comments about it too).

How boring the world would be if we all liked the same things...

The Liquid Metal is cool, but too pricey for what it is IMO.
If not the Liquid Metal the 'half' orange.

The LM is not worth the premium and is not significantly different enough to warrant the price difference

I like a semi!

I went for the full orange option coming up 2 years ago. Still love it. As other have said, it's not as "in yer face" as you might think.

It's the only watch Omega do in that colour, so i see it as a kind of signature piece with regards to PO's

If i ever bore of the Orange i can always change the bezel and go for the half orange, but to be honest i can't see that happening any time soon.

I've got a full orange one in the big size. Wear it lots. Brilliantly practical watch. Keeps good time, the lume is great, the dial is very clear and quick to read, it's comfy and seems to shrug off minor scuffs and dings. Slides under a cuff nicely, too.

The clasp is a bit of a scuff-magnet, though.

But when you're 70+, will you wear an orange watch?

If I get any watch which lasts 40 years - I'll wear it with absolute and unashamed pride. Even if it is a pink "Hello Kitty" watch with a faux fur strap!

Go for the full orange on a bracelet, but order the navy rubber strap with depoloyment clasp and orange stitching. The bracelet is seriously expensive aftermarket buy.

The watch is not as in your face on the rubber, and looks great.

No orange for me. I love orange watches (had an Orange Monster and replaced it with a SKX011) but I think on the PO the big black is best.

I have the PO 45.5mm in black with white numerals and as a result, gets my vote! Perfect for formal and informal occasions smile

Full size orange PO for me, been wearing it every day for three years and love it. Gets loads of attention though, but what ever the colour its got to be full size IMHO. Which ever one you buy you will be very pleased, the weight and quality are just perfect.
