Ok, so it's coming up to 'significant age' birthday time, the big 3-0. I'm about 98% that it's going to end up with me buying a watch to commemorate/commiserate (delete as applicable) so it's time to start weighing up what I want. The problem is, I really want a PO.
The PO I want, and will probably get will end up being 45mm, non-chronograph as I like the clean looks of it. The dilemma I have with this is the colour choice, in that I don't know how the orange will wear. I really like the orange/orange version, but two things make me hesitate; 1: seems like it's the default PO that people buy, 2: everyone knows what it is. My thoughts were originally to buy the black bezel/orange numerals version and that way if I really really wanted the full orange, I'd be able to send it to Omega and have the bezel changed for the orange one, but that got me to thinking that it looks like a bitsa-watch, and that the orange numerals might look out of place.
So, full orange, semi orange, or no orange PO - that is my dilemma. Help!?!
In closing, I really like the Liquid Metal PO which has no orange on it, so this might swing the result in the no orange favour. (I'd get one of these myself but the premium over the standard model is a little too much to stomach!)

Exactly the same choice I have... For the same reason.
I have voted full orange as that's the one I am almost certainly going for.
I have tried them on and the orange isn't as in-yer-face as you might think from the pics.
It's a divers watch and I think orange 'just works' on it.
I looked at some Speedies too as I thought I have more in common with the 'point' of a speedmaster than a divers watch, but I just found the PO to be far more to my taste. It felt more substantial, less delicate, and the simple looks of the non-chrono 45 were utterly enthralling...
I was hoping to find a pre-owned Franck Muller as my first choice (good grief they are beautiful watches), but finances simply don't allow, and the pre-owned market isn't exactly flooded with choice. I reckon that when owners come to flip a FM and find out the HUGE depreciation they suffer, they just decide to keep them.
As regards the 'common' nature of the watch, well I don't know anybody else who has one, but I guess it depends on the circles you move in. They are popular for a reason, and that reason is they are lovely things.
Don't buy to be different, or to be the same for that matter. Try one on, touch it look at it, enjoy it. If it gives you a tingle, then it's the watch for you.
Having £2k to spend is a nice place to be, though it's difficult to decide what's right, especially for a birthday present as it is pretty much law that it must be a keeper.
I do wonder if those that have £8k, or £10k or more to spend agonise about the choice of watch in the same way. I am willing to wager they do.

Orange has no places on watches in my humble opinion.
When you're 70 do you still want to be wandering round with a bright orange watch on?
Couldn't disagree more. If done tastefully, I think orange works very well on some watches. When you're 70 do you still want to be wandering round with a bright orange watch on?
I should qualify my opinions by saying that I own an Orange Monster (and have had lots and lots of positive comments about it too).
How boring the world would be if we all liked the same things...
I went for the full orange option coming up 2 years ago. Still love it. As other have said, it's not as "in yer face" as you might think.
It's the only watch Omega do in that colour, so i see it as a kind of signature piece with regards to PO's
If i ever bore of the Orange i can always change the bezel and go for the half orange, but to be honest i can't see that happening any time soon.

I've got a full orange one in the big size. Wear it lots. Brilliantly practical watch. Keeps good time, the lume is great, the dial is very clear and quick to read, it's comfy and seems to shrug off minor scuffs and dings. Slides under a cuff nicely, too.
The clasp is a bit of a scuff-magnet, though.

But when you're 70+, will you wear an orange watch?Gassing Station | Watches | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
