Hi All,

If I buy an E46 equipped with factory bluetooth phone prep, and buy a bluetooth gizmo for my Classic Ipod - will it play through the whole Harmon Kardon set up? or just a puny speaker designed for phone conversations at the front??

I can't test the idea because the car in question is 100 miles away and I havent bought it yet!!!

Thanks..........smile

Bluetooth is just phone, not music, audio streaming from bluetooth was not around when the E46 was out.

hmmm, b*gger. The car I'm after is unusual in that it has full TV sat nav, harmon kardon, and yet just a single MINIDISC player behind the TV and no CD Changer.

Looks like I'll be looking for an iPod integration kit. I have NO idea which is best suited to such an original factory install....................frown

can anyone help??

Dension ice link will do the trick, plenty around secondhand and should cost you about £50 to have it fitted

You would be best to buy one without Nav and put in the Dynavin, plug and play and takes 10 mins to install, give you mp3, ipod, nav, bluetooth, TV, internet etc.

This is the unit.....

The oem nav on e46 and e39 is well passed its sell by date now.

Hi Trellis,

The Dynavin pictured above is a Chinese made replacement unit for E46's that's quite popular. It replaces the oem modules to an all in one dash mounted unit and will cost you around £589 from the UK official dynavin importers. That'll give you a UK warranty and UK company for returns and support. If you check the various BMW and E46 specialised forums, you'll see everything about them. There's plus points and minus points, and it's really up to you to evaluate and decide if it's a unit for you.

Cheers, Dennis!

Swapping OEM nav for this is a complete ball ache, forget it.

Get a car with standard radio if you want to go this route.

What makes it so bad with OEM Nav?

Hi Trellis,

If you have an E46/E39/E38/E53 which all shared the much wanted 16:9 widescreen, mk4 GPS computer audio/GPS system, and it perhaps has a basic radio cassette etc, then retrofitting all the looms, modules, screen, GPS antenna is a complex job. Dash out, centre console out, seats out, carpets lifted, parcel shelf out, boot area panels out. You then need to fit the looms and the GPS antenna, fit the modules in (Tv tuner, amplifier etc) connect them all up and then put all the trim back. Set aside perhaps 8 hours plus if you are adept at this sort of thing. If not, set aside perhaps £300 or so for someone to do it for you.

Aside from that, getting the modules and hardware will be around £1000-1200 for the Mk4 drive and the BM54 amplifier, screen etc. The analogue tv tuner will soon be totally useless, and the bmw plug n play hybrid analogue and digital tuner can be had when one turns up, for around £450-600!

also remember all the modules above will be old, non guaranteed 2nd hand!

Cheers, Dennis!

The screen is just a screen, everything is in the rear, as said above you have to strip the car.
Plus the Dynavin comes with a cable to connect the oem radio harness to the Dynavin, if you hav oem nav you don't have this connector behind the screen, so you would have to make one up yourself and run it to the unit in the boot.

As I said, forget it!!

Don't get me wrong I have retrofitted the BMW Nav to a few cars, including my CSL which never even had it as an option, and can do it in around 3 hours now, but I would not want to try and put a Dynavin in a car with OEM Nav.

I think for the first time ever, a BMW without Nav is now more sort after than with it.

Don't worry. OEM nav upgraded to latest software and maps (inc speed cameras) plus an intravee for ipod integration (v easy to fit) gets you to a perfectly adequate set-up.

Agreed, the MKIV DVD nav running the latest software is pretty good to be fair, I actually really like its routing choices and the Intravee makes browsing your ipod pretty easy too.

will an intravee work given the head unit isnt running a CD changer?

(what an unusual OEM specification - minidisc, satnav HK and no changer!)
