opinions welcome please on the following... am i right to complain more???

bought a 2003 c4s from reading that i picked up end feb this year. paid 65k for it. the dealer told me that it would need a service at the end of april (ie two months after purchase) when the car was a year old, which they would do free of charge. fair enough i thought.

took it in last week, and picked it up thursday... was told that the rear tyres were 1.2 - 1.5 mm on the outside, and that they would need replacing shortly. bearing in mind i bought this car 2 months ago and have covered 2000 miles (1200 of which have been 2 trips down to cornwall with a pregnant wife who insisted i set the speed limiter to 90 so she could nag me if i went too fast), the remaining 800 being driving rould local roads (NO track days), it's seems a bit much that they should be telling me this, especially when they say the insides wear faster than the outsides (tyres are P Zero's by the way).

I would expect from a main dealer, hassle free driving for the first year, especially when I'm buying a year old car for pretty much new money.

does anyone out there agree with me that they should have put new rear tyres on when they sold me the car. if so any ideas how i can come to a suitable arrangement with them????

Each approved used Porsche comes With:

"12 month's comprehensive warranty
12 month's European roadside assistance
Independent mileage and vehicle history checks
Fully checked and adjusted steering geometry
A full service, if one is due within either 3000 miles or 3 months
At least 11 month's MOT
'N' rated tyres with a minimum of 3mm tread
A category 1 Thatcham Approved, ABI anti-theft system
A comprehensive technical inspection
Body and paint work in line with our Anti-perforation/Long life guarantee" T&C's from used car web site.

So to answer your question 1.5 MM tread wear in 2000 miles is not to bad as to how they are wearing this is tough but I would sugest that they you negociate a four wheel alinement and pay for your own Tyres(shows Willing).

However my guess is they will do the service as they are obliged to but point you to the T&C's above re tyres then smile and Quote you unhappy. In the last resort speek to Julian Hardy direct (Dealer Principle)
At the end of the day they are expensive cars to run and there is just no getting away from that.if you serch the Forum there are several threads on whare to get Tyres at good rates.

The wheel geometry should be set up that under normal road driving your tyres should wear out first on the inside of the tread, not the outside.

Can I just echo the advice to get a full Geometry check. My first BoxS ate a set of tyres (PZeros) due to poor Geometry settings...at £800 I was not a happy bunny.

Properly set up the tyres should last longer than they seem to have done on your car..

for fear of embarrassing myself through ignorance, can someone explain what a full geometry test involves, what it establishes and what one can conclude from it?

Carried out by laser, will check toe in/out, camber etc etc. Crucial on a Porker where the tolerances are give or take 5seconds of adjustment, and not 10 seconds as most cars. You WILL feel the difference.

Can but recomend GT1 at Chertsey for this work. 01932 569911/944. Tell 'em I sent ya!!

My car is done annually, at least .

Hi mate,

when I bought my boxster used they provided me with the technician's report which was a circa 90 point check and had the current tread details on it. I managed about 13000 miles on a set of rear ends

I've done 2000 miles since taking my C4s from Edinburgh and there is hardly any wear. My geometry was set up as part of prep and I check the tyre pressures weekly with the same gauge.
