I have a Porsche 996 C2 Tiptronic which I have used previously for a 105db Track Day.

The Porsche 996 Tiptronics will not rev beyond 4000RPM in Neutral or Park I am therefore about 1500 RPM short of the Static Test 75% RPM. Has anyone got a way round this apart from doing a Drive By test which some circuits cannot do. The engine and exhaust are standard items.

Anyone out there with this problem or any ideas would be much appreciated.

Cant you tell then it redlines at 6000?
I had to tell a slight porky when my bike failed the test at 10000rpm!

I think they do apply a bit of common sense. They pretty much know if a car is too noisy or not even without the meter.

My M3 has a standard exhaust and is very quiet. At Brands Hatch the tester obviously heard me drive up. He said "Just give it a big rev for me" and then said "There's more noise from the front than the back, so that's a pass" and put the sticker on.

Unless it is an MSV venue - they have been demonstrated not to have any common sense with regard to 911s, and since late last year have taken to having a second person stick their head through the window to ensure that their chosen rpm is reached. They also refused to conduct drive by tests last year...

Can't always be the case. My example was actually from Brands Indy on an MSV run day.

I have the same issue with my XKR - won't allow you to rev past 4,100. It hasn't been a problem; have just been told to hold it as far as it will go whilst they perform the noise test.

This was Snetterton last year when they turned away all of the 911s on a 101db day and where I had been before with the same car (devoid of any ex-factory mods to the noisy bits) and same noise limit without any kind of issue. That I had been at Brands with them the month previously with the same car and the same noise limit was of no bearing to them and they refused to take the car and do a drive by test too. The only other MSV venue I tend to use was Brands GP, but I won't be back there as now they have gone to a comedic £500/day I am not prepared to take any kind of risk on what their noise policy is on any given day. I would expect Brands to take a more measured view (if anything because I have routinely been there twice a year for a while now without issue), but given that MSV either don't have suitable guidelines for discretion (or don't always follow them if they do) and the general unhelpfulness of their staff that I experienced I simply am not going to count on it. Your mileage may of course vary, but I am spending more on the continent instead (though I will of course still be doing Donington, Silverstone and so on as well).

Had same problem with my car (911) at Snetterton last Friday it has been to Silverstone, Oulton Park, Anglesey, normally showing 98-101db. At Snetterton in the same trim it was claimed it was 108db!! Did some basic work on silencer (which all blew out on second corner) was let on in afternoon. Watchers said many cars sounded much louder than mine on track and it never set off any drive-by meters. Is there an issue with the static measuring equipment (or the guy who holds the meter he hardly treated me as a customer) at snetterton and the way it is possibly more sensitive to a flat 6 ? I am very puzzled its the first place I've been and refused on noise in the morning and its a long way for me - won't go back again.
