Had this problem for a few weeks now and im getting fed up.basically when i start the car on a morning it runs rough and stays like it unless i warm it up for 5mins then stop and start it again...this seems to cure it so i took the car to the main dealer where i have it serviced and they found that i had a mouse living in the engine bay.

The mouse had chewed through some wiring that went to the injectors or around that area so they replaced it and also put a new cooling fan on which was done without asking me first...total bill arond 1k.

Anyway took the car away and the next morning the same problem so problem not solved and 1k spent!!!

Took the car back and they had it for 4 days and couldn't find a problem so i collected again. The next morning fired it up and same problem and engine management light came on. phoned them up and took it back in and asked if it could be a fuel pump problem as it makes a loud noise now when i unlock the car...was told not likely.

I left it with them and got a call saying it had recorded a missfire on cylinder 5 again and had swapped the coil etc to see if the problem moved but found no fault so had a look down the plug socket to find alot of carbon build up.They said the engine needed to be removed and cleaned out as this was obviously the problem and BMW had agreed to pay the 5k estimate even tho im out of warranty by a few months....the car has only done 36k so that was the reason they swung it.

Picked up the car on friday and payed £160 for oil and a few other bit which i thought was ok considering what work they had done and took it home. Started the car up saturday moring and hey presto it was no different!!! if anything it was worse and now smells of oil through the fans and the steering wheel is well out of line...i seem to have ended up with more problems than when i started.

Any way it's going back in but story aside does this sound like a HPFP problem as for the noise it's making or maybe an injector fault...and considering i have spent £1200 for nothing upto now should i be expected to shell out anymore cash??

many thanks,kev.

Kev,

Try posting on Bimmerfest, they have a lot more experience there of HPFP problems. This could well be the start of a HPFP failure, I know people report rough running in the weeks leading up to a failure.

Almost certainly HPFP failure. Simply amazing that nobody at the dealer had thought of this before doing thousands and thousands of pounds worth of work on the car!

People in the UK seem to be in denial about the whole HPFP thing, is this because there simply isnt that many 335i's over here?
