Was replying to another topic on here and thought it might be a worth a thread on its own:

My post in the other thread was:

Sold an XR4i through a newspaper ad when I was about 19.

We lived on a cul-de-sac, bloke's mate who was driving stopped at the end of the road and the buyer walked down to our house at the bottom of the dead-end, about 200m which seemed odd at the time.

Looked at the car for about 10 secs then offered the full asking price in cash, didn't even open a door, never mind a test drive. Should have rung a few bells then and there but cash is cash.

That was a Thursday. Went out on Saturday and stayed round a mates. Parents woken up at 3am by the police asking where I was - they told the OB I had been out the previous night and didn't know where I was at the moment - quite true, I could have been at the house of any one of the people I was out with the night before.

Police told them that the XR4 had been involved in a ram-raid and as I was still on the DVLA records as the owner I was the main suspect.

When I eventually got home I was arrested and taken down the nick. That was a fun few hours with a bad hangover till we got it sorted.

Anyone here ever flogged their vehicle and had it used for a nefarious purpose / sold to a famous owner / used in a film / seen it again on TV / anything else??

I know of a guy, who sold his XJ40 V12 then a couple of weeks later it was on eBay again, having covered 30K miles less than when it left him. The advertiser also used the same pictures as the guy who sold it in the first place.

Sold my old e36 coupe, and the gearbox exploded and its internals and oil were all over the road apparently. Thats about as good as it gets.

Also sold a saxo, and they guy admitted to me had no license and wasn't going to get one either (never mind insurance), as it was a rip off! Never heard anything though.
