AS per title. What would be the better choice.

I currently have a n/a Rev3 MR2 and I am considering getting the GTS (turbo) But I have always liked the Mitsubishi lancer evo 1 and 2

Has anybody owned them both and if so what would you reccomend

You would probably have more fun from an MR2 to be honest. Have only owned an MR2 rev 2 turbo for 2 weeks so am possibly not the best person for an answer having never owned an Evo.

Like yourself had a na one, and now have a turbo. Difference is epic. Driven a couple of evos and had a mates scooby for a month once but the mr2 feels more special.

I have had a Impreza before and found it so boring. It did go well though

It looks like another MR2 then. I was only concerned that if we had another agressive winter an MR2 may not be the best vehicle for the job

Few years back when I was looking at getting an MR2, an ex-owner who had converted to ST205 GT4 ownership managed to convert me. Awesome car, don't get me wrong.. But not as 'special' as the MR2, kind of wish I had stuck to my guns on that one... shoot

Will it be your only year round car? If so I'd go EVO.

I say that as an MR2 owner.

Early Evo all the way IMHO! I do like MR2's, they definitely feel a bit more 'special' to sit in but I've never experienced a properly quick one. The Evo should be quick straight out of the box and, with decent brakes and tyres, will be very effective around a circuit too if trackdays are you bag.
Horses for courses though and, as they're two very different cars, I'd make sure you have a good drive in a couple of examples of each before you make a decision.

just driven through winter in mine with r'888's on, no real issues
driven it through the last 5 winters as it is my only car, with road tyres on they are perfectly capable in winter

I've just run my MR2 Turbo through this winter and it has surprising traction even in 3 inches of snow, whilst neighbors with bmws and mercedes were wheel spinning on the spot i was able to trundle along with no issues. Having the engine over the rear wheels gives lots of grip, you still have to be careful, but take it easy and you shouldn't have any problems.

Oh and hearing the turbo spooling up behind your head, combined with a decent shove in your back is truly addictive.

Depends on your criteria. What is most important to you? Running costs? Looks? 2 seats v 4?
Not owned a Lancer nor driven that early a version. Had a go in an Evo 6. Good car but it didn't involve me in the way the MR2 does. At the end of the day they are very different so any comparison doesn't mean all that much tbh. If you currently have an n/a MR2 then definitely have a go in a turbo.
