e36 328 to e36 4 door evo m3
Discussion
Hi i have had many bmws over the years and currently drive a 328 sport coupe s reg. I have been offered a 4 door e36 m3 evo but it has 200k miles on it but is in good condition and has been looked after by a specialist.
working and running cost are not a problem as im a technician myself.
My questions are is the mileage to high for such a high revving engine? what is the performance like compared to the 328? i did have an e46 m3 but had to sell it to buy my first house will it compete with that in terms off speed?
i have been offered the car cheap and there would not be much in price difference if i was to sell my 328 so could someone please give me some guidance as im not sure what to do!
my 328 has just turned 140k miles as well so mileage is getting up on that as well,
i look forward to your replies many thanks!

Standard 328 to m3 is a big step performance wise, good e36 M3s are e46 m3 pace.
I've got an e36 m3 & also a fettled & stripped 328- got the normal inlet & tb mods which normally get to 220bhp or so, plus the lower fd M3 lsd so its lower geared & the M3 is still a lot brisker & a lot more punch, despite the 328 being sub 1200kg & the m3 being nearer 1500.
If the engine ever pops on the m3 tho its a grand min for an unknown off ebay, but 200 quid odd for a 328 lump & some of the m3 bit are silly money & all the consumables are a lot more.
200k is a lot on the engine, but with good history etc I've known 'em get to 300k tho, just struggle to sell it on is all. I've had 3x e36 ms & all have had 130k+ & all have been spanked hard, but always oil changes v regually- I do it at 3k miles tops but just use a regular 10/40 semi & have never had engine issues even on a 140k miler thats done 12 hard trackdays.

E36 EVO is as quick as an E46 M3 and a well sorted one is great to drive. Condition / maintenance records are king at 200k ~ have you driven other EVOs to get a feel for handling, engine performance and how a 'fit' engine should sound etc ??This video is worth watching right to the end
