BMW E34 Touring to scrap or not to scrap?
Discussion
What should I get for my car as scrap? Or should I save it?
I've got an E34 525i SE Touring Auto with cream leather which in is not too bad nick but is SORN on the in-law's drive after being stood a few months. It was running fine when I last used it apart from a fuel leak which I have not had a chance to trace.
The battery is dead and I failed to jump start it, so I was thinking of just having it scrapped as I've heard the value of scrap is high at the moment.
What you reckon?
ETA: Change that it's a 525 NOT a 535.

Sounds like an ideal candidate for eBay or retro rides to me. Get it started and running, see if the fuel leak is an easy fix. If you're confident of it's integrity then put an MOT on it to triple it's value. Don't scrap it, the world is becoming increasingly short of interesting cars.
Not sure what the value for scrap was - I was hoping someone on here might have an idea.
I have heard that the plastic fuel tank can split and if so they're so expensive to replace it's pretty much a write-off. But it could just be a hose - it wasn't a massive leak.
I'm also worried I may have caused some more "issues" trying to start it - there was a puff of smoke from behind the engine when it was trying to turn over, then it wouldn't even try.
I've decided to have another go at getting it started tomorrow on my day off. I'm just struggling to find the time to sort it with a baby taking up all our time.
