New XK Convertible

Had a test drive of a pre registered, no miles XK Con. Friday, what a lovely car!! I currently drive a less than a year old XF S Portfolio which I reckon to be a really great car but, the XK is something else. Question is, am I better off going for this car with a very big saving or, look at a XKR with 5 to 10k miles on it, which I haven't actually driven yet but would be a bit cheaper. Not too bothered about the extra performance but it would be nice!

May I ask how much is the XK being offered at?

Is it a Portfolio or the "base" model? If its a Portfolio then you aren't gaining any extra spec with an XKR, just the slightly different aero package and of course the extra power.

I have an XKR cab demo at the moment if you wanted to take it for a spin to see the difference?

How can you not be interested in the performance! The 5.0 XKR is awesome, take up the offer of the test drive. I'd not go for the XK....but a nearly new XKR. Do you really want a Convertible, you could save £5k and buy the sharper looking coupe.

It is a Portfolio and bloody lovely!! It was fast enough for me and with my daily driving to and from work being mainly A406 North Circular comfort is more important than speed but I suppose both would be even better. Ashley, may take you up on your test drive offer.

In that case then it is 90% about the performance and just a few additions to the body, bonnet vents, bright grilles, wheels and exhaust.

As you say, the 5.0 is perfectly fast enough. The s/c puts it into another league though. Managed to get a GPS verified 174mph out of an XKR coupe at Gaydon whilst drag racing a 911 Carrera S with the PDK 'box.
