Could this be because most people without one of those new fangled Digi box thingys can't recieve C5?!?!

I can't C5, and I know of a few hundred other people who get it, but you get a better quality picture watching a kettle boil!

Don't drink and drive/type/read/sleep or take a piss! Bloody Hell!!!

This is a shame I reckon. Its far and away the best car programme on TV at the moment, but I suppose its suffering from the 'theres only s**t on channel 5' affliction.

I cant see anything wrong with the format, car salesman, racing driver, totty and the articles are broad based, so I can only put it down to the station itself.

I would watch it if I could get Channel 5 at all, but since I am only a lowly terrestrial TV viewer what can I expect.

Take 2.9 million viewers, apply the percentage who can receive C5 and, hey presto, you get 0.6 million. It's not rocket science!

Must agree with the Monday scheduling - so far I have forgotten it more often than I have watched, which is a pity because from what I have seen it deserves to do well, especially now that Quentin Wilson seems to be on some quest for motorists rights! So far I seen him banging on about Government Cash Cameras and complaining about the appalling condition of Britain’s roads despite 10% of all of the revenue collected by the Treasury coming from drivers! Keep it up Quentin...

Agreed, go for it wilsy.
Not sure if I agree with that AA safety expert though, he reckons we should follow the Swedish and stick cable barriers in the centre of B roads to reduce fatalities!

That maybe the case but what about other users of our fine highways(!), like....

Shredded biker anyone! Oww

OK agreed, but that point asside the general message was that there is loads of things that can be done to reduce the risk of accidents but the government won't spend the money because i) it doesn't fit in with their policy of forcing us all onto trains and non-existant buses and ii) they make loads'a'money from GATSO cameras so why spend the cash elsewhere? Roads don't matter any more. R...

For those that can't receive C5, you'll be gutted to hear that the next episode will include a road test of the Pagani Zonda!

I'll be sure to let you know how good it is ;-)

Aren't we seeing a trend here ?

C5 has crappy viewing figures. Main reasons cited are that the programme content needs a bit of work (but it's getting better), and a lot of the population suffers from poor reception, mainly due to transmitters that cannot cope and badly need upgrading.

ITV Digital have gone under. Main reasons include some halfwit paying stupid money for Nationwide League football that nobody watched, and a lot of the population suffered from porr reception, mainly due to transmitters that cannot cope and badly need upgrading.

Coincidence ? Who owns the transmitters ? Bet it's the Government. The self same Government that wanted everybody to be on terrestrial digital by 2006. I now notice that date has slipped by a few years.

What's the betting that they'll try and offload the transmitters etc (assuming they do own them) off to some poor bastards, unaware they've been sold a lemon. Railtrack all over again.

Er, no. The government doesn't own the transmitters. Some are owned by the BBC oters by the repective broadcasting organisations IIRC.

I think you'll find thet the Digital telly was being run off Alcatels "skybridge" set of sattelites.. which belong to ..wait for it.. Alcatel.. they just lease space on it to people.. hence suddenly there are loads of Internet connection packages appearing that are sattelite dish based.. theres loads of bandwidth in them there skys

yes, but the DTI govern the output power of transmitters and location of any new transmitters. The government has patently failed to raise legislation to increase the number of transmitters and to allow the desperately needed increase in output power of existing transmitters, which would address a lot of the reception & coverage problems with both Channel 5 and Digital terrestrial.

doesn't help that its on at the same time as Eastenders which I think gets the highest viewing figures of any regular programme on the box

Hmm, as I heard it when I checked, the problem was that C5 et al didn't have the money/believed it uneconomical to broadcast where I am (Sussex coast).

I think a major problem with the TV reception and the transmitters is that most of the halfwits that decide where these things are going live in London!

They don't understand that height, and land formations make a difference in signal strength! They see the spec of the transmitter "Will have a strength of X amount for x distance, y amount of y distance... etc" so then they say well 4 transmitters will cover the highlands of Scotland! Utter crap!

The mobile companies are just beginning to learn about my area! I look out of my bedroom window and see 2, yes 2 gsm transmitters! They are within 1.5k of each other in a straight line! Both of them are used by the 4 major networks!! I just wish the TV companies would do the same! It's wierd though, the town 5 miles down the coast can pick of C5!!!

I just visited the show's web site and took a look at the Ask the Experts section to see if there were any interesting snippets of wisdom from the magnificent trio.....

.....but I probably don't have the right version of Java, or my browser is archivistically challenged, or something equally ludicrous 'cos I just couln't see any questions at all.

Oh. Nobody's actually asked any? Come on guys, I'm sure that the opportunity to completely swamp our favourite TV heroes with ridiculous, ambiguous or totally un-answerable gems is too good for PHers to miss???

Or were they all rude propositions to Miss H, perhaps?

Miss H. Actually, she's a Mrs.

As for ITV Digital, at least I've got a Monkey (pronounced Munkeh) and he's worth even more now! Apparently some have fetched over 500 quid! Shite - wish I'd subscribed again! Anyone with a grand? - I might consider selling him...

What's the problem? In our office we get a shit BBC, 2, ITV, C4 but an excellent Channel 5. And that's with a tiny aerial.

So after Trisha, and Fern and John, we have a bit of auction stuff, then the news, then Shortland Street, Crossroads, then the rest of the afternoon is all Channel 5 – superb picture and usually a good film after Gloria Hunniford or Columbo maybe if we're lucky ... not that we don't get loads done, of course.

Oh Fifth Gear? ... haven't watched it yet.
