The Mrs Peugeot 306 (Rat) has failed it's MOT on a major leak of the exhaust and the emissions on the fast idle test.

The results are:

Fast idle test - Lamba
Limits - 0.97 - 1.03
Actual - 1.20 Fail

Second fast idle test - Lamba
Limits - 0.97 - 1.03
Actual - 00.0 Fail

The exhaust has a big split before the rear silencer and the garage said fixing the exhaust would probably cure the emissions.

Has anybody got a clue if this is likey or what the emissions result could mean?

Thanks Ben.

I agree, with that emission result the exhaust blow should be at fault

Thats really rather simple, a hole in the exhaust lets air in so lambda is too high and it fails as the garage said. You need to fix your exhaust.

Cheers for the replies, We have had the exhaust welded up 2 twice as the car was never supposed to live this long, it is now one rotten piece from the cat to tail pipe. She is probably going to put a whole new exhaust on it including cat but we dont want to spend the money if it's not going to get through the emissions.

A new Cat is going to bump up the cost of the exhaust quite a bit is it not? Is there any evidence that it is failing?
