Hit by debris on the A2

Heading down to Lydden Hill yesterday to watch some racing when something solid flew off the back of a lorry and smashed into the front of the car 
No time to take evasive action or even get a look at what it was. It's ripped through the number plate and damaged the radiator grill.
Guess I'm lucky it didn't come through the windscreen.

If you didn't get the number plate, did you at least see which company it was? Any idea what it was that flew off? That may have branding on it, too.
Scares the hell out of me when things like this happen. I've had large stones get hurled over me from truck tyres and wheel caps spinning off from the oncoming traffic into my lane...
To even think that you just dont get the chance to get the cars details or anything.. means claim on your insurance and loose the NCB unless you're a lucky protected one.
If this was 4010, we'd have 2 inches of electric forcefield around our babies... but we dont, so the slower you're going in traffic, the less damage hopefully...
Thank god that thing never hit your hood, otherwise that would have been a nasty shock as it rippled up the bonnet onto the windscreen and ... damn scares me to just think about it....

Smacks of urban legend, this one, but a colleague of MrsV6 had a similar experience, whereby a sheet of metal blew off a lorry on the opposite carriageway, landed edge-on to his bonnet, sliced through and them bounced off the engine and over the roof. A foot further back and it would have been a different story! 
I had a similar thing once with a tressle table coming off the top of a van in the inside lane and catching my car just below the door in the outside lane - all on the M25, I pulled over to check the damage and inform plod that there was a table on the carriageway, and plod issued ME with a producer because "it is routine", which was nice!

much the same experience . driving down to cornwall for a holiday all the family in the car a range rover doing 70-80mph in the middle lane and suddenly cars swerving all over the place, and there in front of me is a bloody sofa !!! don't know how I missed the bloody thing swerved into the slow lane, nearly rolled a range rover , don't know which tw*t dropped it but a serious fright.

10 years ago I was on my way to a job interview in Manchester when a tipper truck came onto the motorway infront of me and spat out half a brick from between its doubled up rear tyres. I was amazed it didn't come through but it made a huge mess of the windscreen. I flashed the truck, got alongside and made him pull onto the hard shoulder for his insurance details.
Were any of you travelling up the M1 North bound prop around Junc 10 yesterday around lunch to 1400 i think there was all sorts of debris like the plastic illuminous fences the council use to cordon of road works.... Thing is there was no work being done... but i tell you i s@@~ myself as there were cars swerving all over the place going from 80 - 5mph isnt nice in between two lanes..... Some people had been caught out and were on the hard shoulder inspecting theyre damage....

There was a huge bang under the front of the car which scared the **** out of me as I didn't see it in the dark.
Stopped and found the remains of an expensive mountain bike plus carrier stuffed under my car (a Saab Estate). £2400 worth of damage to bodywork and underside of car including a new sump.
Wonder how long it took the driver to realise??
Some of these bike carriers are a bloody menace and only held on by a couple of thin straps.
There was a huge bang under the front of the car which scared the **** out of me as I didn't see it in the dark.

A lorry I was about to overtake on a dual carriageway passed the sheet of plasterboard lying in the outside lane and his slipstream flipped it upright. I proceeded through it at about 65mph- must have looked spectacular. No sign of any plasterboard when I stopped except the piece that broke one bar of the grille. Mostly it's been stuff like raised manhole covers that stuffed the silencers on my Tuscan and Taimar.
